86Introduction to Tongue Twisters
Are you an actor?
A vocalist, perhaps?
A business person?
That's right. A business person.
Regardless of your vocal needs, tongue twisters are a great way to warm up vocally and improve your diction. So, if you're preparing for a performance as an actor, a concert as a vocalist, or even if you're lecturing at a business presentation tongue twisters can provide a great vocal warm up for your voice!
The following sets of tongue twisters are designed for you to speed through. Don't worry if you make mistakes. Keep moving forward until you get to the end. Go back afterward and understand your mistakes and correct them accordingly.
For What Else are Twisters Good?
- All things speech related, to put it simply. If you speak in front of people, if you speak to them on the phone, if you have any type of verbal conversation and even if you sing, tongue twisters will get the blood flowing to the right places in your mouth, jaw, cheeks and even other important facial muscles!
- Tongue twisters take a tole on the tongue. But the the goal is not to make the tongue tired, but to try to make the tongue wired!
- They are great to have fun with!
This tongues isn't that twisted... at least not yet!
Short Tongue Twisters 1-5
Ready? Set? Go! Okay, stop. Say them out loud! Ready Go!
- Top of the day. Tip top. Tippity toppity snip snop.
- Babbling, Ben brought Babs to behave badly.
- David tried drying tomatos daily, due to Dina's tremendous diet.
- Paul pruned Penelope's pansies leaving Penelope perplexed.
- Mable had a maple tree. Mable's maple tree didn't make maple syrup for Mable. Is Mable's maple unable?
Short Tongue Twisters 6-10
It takes time to truly treasure the twisting of the tongue.
Stop reading now. You didn't read 1-5 out loud. I know you didn't. Don't try and fool me. Start over - now! If you did, then I apologize. You may now continue.
- Twenty little leopards laughed at two lofty lions.
- Imagine having an imaginative imagination.
- Many mice are mighty mice.
- Thirty-three times three plus one is me.
- Sure, Sally sold sixty shells at the sea's shore, but Sue sold seventy seven! Sally, surprised at Sue's success, screemed and shouted seventeen times; "Sue's shells are shabby! Sally's shells are sheek!" Sue said to Sally, "Say what?" Then Sue shouted, "Sally sold sixty six shells so she's upset. Sorry for her shouting!"
Now that's twisted!

Ooh, the toy boat one is really good! Simple yet tough. A paradox!
