Twins Babies Preparation
If you are expecting twins babies, here are some practical tips
Get Covered - If you think that you are "at risk" of conceiving twins, maybe because of your family history or because of your age - older mums are more likely to have twin babies - consider getting insurance.
But you must get in early prior to any scans. It is best to remember though that if you have had any infertility treatment, the insurance companies are unlikely to accept the risk so try a few.
Use Any Nesting Instinct That Comes Your Way - Many women describe experiencing the "nesting instinct" in the last few days or hours before the twins are born. It usually takes the form of a burst of energy so use it to get those last-minute jobs done. Although this is less common on the birth of twins as they are often premature, if you do get it, use it to its best advantage - it is likely that it is the last time that you will have energy to spare for the next five years!
Get the jobs done that have been bothering you for the past few months. They will only continue to bother you for many more months if you don't get them done now and you'll have much more important things to worry about.
Do Your Research -Check out which supermarkets have ample large parking spaces near the doors, two or three trolleys with double baby seats, paper towels to wipe them down with in the rain, and get the store's phone number so that you can call ahead so they can put one aside for you.
Also, where's the local Laundromat?. You'll need to get there quickly if your washing machine ever breaks down! Which one has parking right in front because maneuvering a twin stroller and a heavy basket of laundry is quite a task, even for twin's moms. Try to choose one with a park or mall nearby so that you can entertain the children while the laundry washes and dries. Find out what coins the machines use and keep a stock of them in a jar at home just in case.
All this might seem a bit over the top if you are just pregnant right now but believe me, the first time that your washing machine breaks down and you've got no cot sheets, you cant find your purse and it's just 30 minutes until the twin babies get hungry, you'll be glad that you did this preparation.
Make Up A Stack Of Stamped Addressed Envelopes - Make at least three for each grandparent and close friend all ready to post off with those first baby photos, first hand and foot prints. This makes it a lot easier to stay in touch and avoid the guilt trap, it keeps those family members fully on board and feeling involved, which is often a lifeline for a mom struggling with twins babies.
If your twins are already here, addressing and stamping those envelopes is a job which can be done by your husband while watching TV as you sit manicled to the sofa by two breast-feeding twins, or by a well meaning but unsuspecting friend who drops by offering help but little thinking that you will take her up on it. Anyone can drink coffee and write envelopes - you're multi-tasking twins babies for heavens sake!
