The Many Styles and Types of Gloves

When you woke up this morning, I'm sure the first thing you thought of was "What type of gloves can I go out and buy?" Right? Probably not. But there comes a time when you will need a good pair to protect your hands from some anticipated element, whether it is to avoid cold weather, weed plants without getting pricked and dirty, or clean out the barbeque grill using toxic oven cleaner. Amazingly, most people don't know how many glove types there really are out there, so in this article, we will explore the many styles there are available and how they might be able to make your life easier than you think.

Types and Styles

There are many types of gloves that can be used depending on the need. Here is a list of some of the more popularly-used types.

Winter - There's not doubt as to why you would need a great pair of winter gloves. The only question you would need to ask yourself is "what style works best for me?" You can find great cotton and wool varieties anywhere in the world from the dollar store to the most expensive shop on Michigan Avenue. So get out there and have a ball shopping for the pair that will match your winter ensemble.

Stylish - Aside from your typical winter glove is one that is meant for formal and stylish purposes. You might want a stylish leather variety to match your coat, or you might want to find a beautiful white pair to wear with a formal gown - or even for your wedding. Those that are stylish can range from wrist length to elbow length; the choice in style and length all depends on the purpose of the purchase.

Industrial - This type can be used for many purposes, both outdoor and indoor, though most times you will need them for protection at outdoor industrial sites. You can find the heat resistant style for working with very hot materials, the demolition style for mechanics, cryogenic that are perfect for protection when working in freezing liquids, the metal guard style for cut resistance, and the utility style that protects electricians.

Sports - There are many styles of sports gloves available depending on what you play. Of course, some are very different than others, and should be examined closely to ensure that the correct ones are purchases. For example, an archer's glove is going to be very different than a baseball glove; one is used for traction when holding a bow and arrow, while the other is considerably thicker and padded to safely catch a high-speed baseball. Other types you can find for sports include those for billiards, cricket, cycling, fencing, driving, hockey, and even scuba diving.

White - This glove type has the potential to fit under the stylish category, however, it is not worn by the everyday public. This style is instead worn in restaurants and hotels by the hospitality staff to show class and unity, often times in parades by band members, and also by members of the service field such as butlers.

Natural Rubber (Latex) - These are always economically friendly and can often be bought in a box of up to 100. It is not uncommon to see medical doctors use them if they need them during a checkup. And often times, they are a great and inexpensive way to handle items like Krazy Glue without the worry of sticky fingers. They are also disposable so you can throw them out and use a new pair when need. The negative of this glove type is that they are so thin and fragile that they tear easily, so if you are in need of true protection, you may want to look toward a more industrial glove.

General - A general style glove is one that doesn't fit under any other specified category. Some general styles and types include the oven mitt, as well as any glove used for washing a human body, washing dishes, gaming (controller for video games) and pushing a manual wheelchair.

Even after populating this list of gloves there is a certainty that some were missed. There are just so many available! But hopefully this has given you a little bit of insight into the tons of styles and types of gloves you can find for pretty much any of their indoor and outdoor needs. Now you just have to get out there and see which ones you want. Good luck and happy shopping!
