Shoot to Kil(l)fitt

The UKA 659 is unique. Now, many people misuse "unique" to describe a rare item. In this case, however, there is no other way to describe it. It is the only one ever made.

Heinz Kilfitt is the person behind Kilfitt cameras. They were one of the most innovative cames for their time. In 1955 the Kilfitt factory manufactured world's first 35mm macro lens - the 40/2.8 Kilar. Four years late, in 1959 they also introduced the worlds first 35mm macro zoom lens.

Heinz Kilfitt retired in 1968, and sold the factory to Dr. Frank Back. The UKA 659 was assembled in 1969, but it is not clear who is the exact person behind the contraption.

There were several auctions on ebay.com. It seems that every person that obtains this small peace of history, tries to sell it for more money. In December 2007 it was sold for $60,000. Not long after the item was re-listed for $58,000. Currently there is an auction it is listed for $62,999. Having in mind that this is a completely unique wrist watch, it might be worth it.
