Understanding Windows Vista

I will share my experiences working with, and understanding, Windows Vista.

Besides running this Hub, I also update my understanding vista blog on a near to daily basis with interesting vista content.

Installing domain printers on vista

If you are a systems admin running a small or large computer network, based on windows 2003 server you are likely to encounter some problems when scripting printers to your client computers.

In Windows Vista, you need to be an administrator or have similar rights to install shared domain printers. You could of course create a new printer admin account, and share the details with your users, but that is a bad way to go.

Clean Vista install with OEM license key from Recovery image - part1

This is part 1 of how to install a clean copy of Vista, when you only have a recovery image.

I have 70 new laptops, that are all pre-installed from the manufacturer - filled with a lot of junk and killingly slow!

What I want to achieve is the following:

- Create a clean Vista Home Premium install, using the allready purchased OEM license key.

- Add drivers and programs to the install.

- Create a .wim file from the install, and deploy it to all laptops using windows deployment services.

Join the fight! Stop trialware on new pc’s and laptops!

The amount of trialware installed on new pc's and laptops, keeps increasing every year. It seems that there is no end to the amount of crap, that are pre installed from the manufacturers.

If I want to have antivirus software or a firewall installed, i'd like to choose myself - you and I are clever enough to make educated decissions on our own.

I bought my Dell Inspiron 530 computer with a 17" LCD wide-screen flat-panel monitor from the dell/outlet site last month. It's a refurbished model. Because it didn't come with speakers I added a set of Altec Lansing with sub-woofer. My computer came with Windows Vista. Because of all the complaints and horror stories I'd heard about Vista, I almost didn't buy it. Now, I'm SO glad I did. I love this computer and I really like Vista. I've had no problems what so ever, and Windows Media Center is great.

It seems that all the problems people are having with Vista is when trying to update from XP. Even in the thick book I have, "Windows Vista Secrets," they don't recommend doing this. It would seem that the best, or possibly ONLY, way to have a positive Vista experience is not to upgrade to it, but to wait til one gets his/her next computer, in which it is already installed.
