Unemployment Benefits NC - A Step by Step Process

Have you found yourself in a position where you need to think about applying for unemployment benefits in NC ? The truth is, many folks find themselves in a position where they need to project about making sure that they can still get by financially when they have been released from a former employment situation and this is exactly what unemployment benefits of NC are meant to do.

For many people, the money they receive from UI or (Unemployment Insurance)is a buffer that they can use to get them through a troubling time and if you are struggling financially, you need to take a look and see what this governmental program can do for you.

How Does unemployment benefits in NC Work?

On the whole, unemployment benefits, which are also known as unemployment insurance payments are intended to provide backup for workers who are unemployed through no fault of their own. The parameters for this situation will vary from state to state, and to comprehend where you stand in this setting, you will need to contact your state's unemployment insurance agency. That link will be toward the bottom of this article. The more quickly you do so after you have become jobless, the sooner your request will be filed and the less time the process will take.

What Do I Need To Bring with me to the Unemployment Office?

When you are signing up for unemployment benefits, the things that you will need to submit will vary from state to state, but you'll learn that the content below can give you an concept of what to expect.

  • Your Name, any aliases you might have had, maiden name, etc.

Address

Social Security Number

Identification (driver's license, state ID, passport, etc.)

Employment history

Reason for the loss of your job

As you can see, this is very similar to the process of applying for a job itself!

What Might Disqualify Me?

Some states will be more consenting about who they will allocate unemployment benefits for, and others will be harsher, but overall, some things are fairly consistent.

For instance, you will not be able to get unemployment benefits if you are going to school full time, and you must be consenting and well-fitted to work. Many agencies will state that you need to be actively seeking out work and that you cannot turn down any work that you do receive.

Similarly, you will find that you cannot receive unemployment benefits if you were dismissed due to misconduct, unless you can describe what prompted the issue and why you acted in the appropriate manner. You will also discover that you cannot collect unemployment benefits if you quit, unless it was due to a personal or family crisis, or a dispute that could not be resolved.

As you can see, applying for unemployment benefits nc is something that can be handled quickly and painlessly, but you will need patience because it will take a little time to get things moving, keeping in mind the waiting period.

In the mean time may I recommend that you get your resume posted with some of the biggest job sites on the Web. Be careful though, because there are many sites where you will get all of your information typed in and then when you hit "submit" they tell you about their posting fee.

If you go to this site http://1800layoffhelp.com/what_to_do_if_you_get_laid_off.htm they have two of the largest job posting sites there and you can post totally free. They even have help with writing resumes if you need it.

During times like this every little bit helps.

I wish you all the best.

Regards,

Miles King

i dont understand how the amout is determined. I worked for a company for a year on salary and am being let go as they are perhaps going out of business. can my unemployment be determined by a percentage of my salary??

Hi Mark,

In many states they will take your annual income and divide it into the weeks of the year to determine what range of benefits that you fall into.

Have you applied for Benefits yet or are you just getting prepared for when you do get let go?

My husband and I have been on unemployment for a while and are struggling. We want to take money out of his 401k in order to survive because unemployment just isn't enough. We are both in school under the TAA program. my question is do we have to let the unemployment office know about a 401k withdrawal and if so will it stop his uemployment?

Hi Susan,Sorry, for the delay in getting back to you. I always recommend full disclosure in situations like this (Bear in mind that I am not a lawyer and can’t give legal advice.) There are other options besides tapping into your 401K. If you are interested in discussing those you can drop me an email at mylesk8@gmail.comBut…. put a comment in here so I know to look at my email :o)

Is NC out of unemployment money? I know several people who have applied properly, are in their sixth week of unemployment and have not heard anything about receiving benefits. They were laid off from a company that is going out of business. Of that six weeks, one week was severance the other five they have had no pay. They all filed the day they were let go. What is wrong with NC?

After collecting unemployment benefits for several weeks, I took a 100% commission job that I cannot expect to see any money from for at least 8 weeks. Am I eligible to continue collecting benefits until I start receiving income from my new job?

I was recently dismissed from a job. I worked for the state of north carolina, a doctor certified that I was unable to perform essential job functions required to do my job with a reevaluation in october 2009. I was injured on the job in october 2008, but was still being made to work all my regular duties while on Worker's Comp. Then I got dismissed from work for something that happened while I was doing a duty, a duty that I wasn't supposed to have been in the first place , I had almost 20 years of clean employment with them, they dismissed me from work, but I believe it stems from me being on workers' comp and under doctor's care. I think they just used this event to get rid of me. I have sought legal health with this issue, but is there any way for me to get unemployment benefits?

What if you elect to resign from your current job if the job is moving to another sate and relocation is not durable for your family? Will a person be denied benefits or will thee be some sort of penalty?

I was recently fired from job and was given a severence package to be paid my salary through the summer. I wish to go back to school and am having trouble finding a part time job that will be suitable for what I need. Are there grants or monies available for that? Would I be eligible for unemployment benefits?

I cashed out my 401k to help us make our mortgage and catch us up on our bills because I have been out of work since the first of April. Do I have to show this on as income received when I file my benefits for the week. I live in the state of NC.

I was layed off without any advance warning. I was on salary for 4 years. Am I eligible for salary, vacation, severence, and moving costs associated with compensation, including un-employment. I moved from another state to accept the job offer given to me 4 years ago. the company paid all mioving costs at that time.

I may be able to draw unemployment, i filed a claim and it was denied. I appealed it and now i have a chance to draw. I was terminated, but the co. didn't have much evidence to state their termination. I took a job a few days ago because i didn't think i could draw, i don't like this job at all and wish i hadn't took it. Can I quit and still draw?

Am I eligible for unemployment benefits in NC if I am to received a severence package?

Linda  says:

I cashed in a portion of my 401K because I have been out of work for more than 7 weeks and still have not received unemployment benefits, although I just found out last week that I have been approved. I will receive the cash in tomorrow; must I report this as "retirement income" under the North Carolina Employment Commission" rules? If I reinvest it in the same account, do I have to report receiving it?
