Unfinished Art Is Unfinished Business

When starting out drawing, it is inevitable that you will create many drawings that won't see the light of day, unfinished drawings that just gather dust in your sketch books, it's these drawings that you can use for your own projects later on, so file them away but not forever, just a short time as they are going to make you famous, or at least that's the hope of realising your forgotten ideas in pencil form.

When I talk about unfinished art I mean drawings that don't quite cut it in your master plan, they are rejects that don't make the final design, but rejects always play a part, abandoned ideas are always pooled for new points of view later on down the creative road, so it is important that you keep them.

I keep a few files or box files for these drawings, so I can access them further in time either online or in document files in my office.

Whenever you return to a file load of unfinished artwork, you are more likely to do something with it, I always believe that a fresh perspective on another day will give you something to think about and make something of your drawings.

Concept ideas are essentially what they are, so never ever lose them, put them away for another day.

I often write notes and colour notes next to my good ideas, so as to refer to them later on I can reference the colours for later scanning into the computer and I could therefore determine if I could add some good filters or layers to the art and improving it somewhat.

I do the same thing with pieces I've written but are "unfinished."
