Fun With Baby Shower Cookie Favors

If you have never hosted a baby shower before and this is your first time, then you have probably very quickly realized that there is a lot to do and get done to make the party a success. From collecting the guest list to ordering and making the food to games and party favors, it all can become extremely overwhelming.

However, you can lessen some of the stress and actually have some creative fun in the process. Making your own baby shower favors will save you money and they can be personalized to fit any theme or wishes of the mother to be.

Baby shower cookie favors are very simple to make. Pick your favorite cookies for your baby shower favor. Pick cookies that are simple to make, that you can make a lot of.

Sugar cookies or chocolate chip are good to pick because of their simplicity and their universal appeal. For this baby shower favor we will use sugar cookies.

1. Gather all your supplies to make the sugar cookies. Or buy the pre-made cough from the grocery store. Make sure to buy enough for the number of guests you have coming.

2. Frosting for your sugar cookies.

3. Dye for your frosting.

4. Frosting pens to write with on top of your cookies.

5. Cookie cutters in baby shapes, such as bottles, babies, strollers, or any other shape that matches the theme of your baby shower.

6. Small, clear cookie bags.

7. If you do not want to use bags, then clear plastic wrap works also.

8. Pre-printed ribbon with your name or your babies name and the date of the baby shower.

Now that you have all your supplies you are ready to make your baby shower cookie favors, first begin with making your cookies.

If you are using cookie cutters, then cut out your shapes. Make around the same number of shapes, so if you need 20 cookies and you have 4 shapes, make 5 of each shape. You may have to make the cookies one day and let them cool overnight and complete the rest of the favor the following day.

Now that your cookies are cooled, begin mixing the frosting to the desired colors you have chosen. Make sure you have enough frosting for all of your cookies.

Begin frosting and designing each cookie now. Use a butter knife to spread the frosting and detail to each cookie. Make sure the frosting is completely dry before doing anything else so that it does not get smeared or crushed.

You can use your frosting pen for small details like eyes, noses, a mouth, or other small lines and curves that can not be done easily with anything else.

Now that all the frosting is dried, begin placing the cookies in the cookie bags. Be careful still while doing this so the frosting does not get knocked off either. Dried frosting can fall off if you are not careful, so slide the baby shower cookie favors into the bags.

Take the pre-printed ribbon and tie the bags closed.

If you are using plastic wrap instead, then tear a piece off and place on the front of the cookie. Gently pick the plastic wrap up together with the cookie and wrap the ends around the back of the cookie. Use a small piece of tape to keep the plastic wrap on the cookie.

Gently tie the pre-printed ribbon around the cookie.

Now, your baby shower cookie favors are done. Place these on each persons plate or in a basket for each guest to take as they leave.

Time For A Baby Shower Tea Favor

Baby shower tea favors are a little more advanced than other projects. Here is the list items you will need to complete this project.

1. Tea cups and saucers.

Buy a few extra in case of a mistake. Your local craft store will sell these and they may be able to be found at local toy stores in sets for children. Buying cups that are made of sturdy plastic however is best. Some tea cups will come already attached to the saucer, while others will be separate.

2. Ribbon in colors that will match your baby shower tea favors.

You can buy rolls of ribbon from your local craft stores and cut to the length you will need. Or you can buy pre-printed ribbon that have the date of the baby shower and either your name or your babies name. Using the pre-printed is nice because they are pre-cut and usually can have a small picture placed on them as well. This is a good way to remind people who's shower the tea cup favor came from, since they most likely will be keeping as a keepsake.

3. Hot glue gun and glue sticks.

4. Light brown wax.

You will need a way to melt the wax, the best way is in a double broiler made for melting wax. If you can not find colored wax, there is always wax dies you can buy to add to the white wax. Make sure you purchase enough wax, buy more if need be so that you will have enough.

5. A small trinket, such as a baby bottle, a little baby, a stroller, or angel or any other small trinket that will match your baby shower theme.

Now that you have all the item to start your baby shower tea favors, make sure you have a clean work area to begin with. This make take an entire day to make these or two days if you do each section separately.

Depending on the space you have available to you and the time you have to make these:

Plug your glue gun in and add a glue stick, so that your gun is hot and ready for when you need it.

Melt the wax down to a liquid consistency. If it is white than follow the directions on the bottle as to how much die to add.

You will slowly add more wax as you are using it. You will need approximately a 1/2 of cup to a full cup of wax per tea cup, this is dependent on the size of the tea cup of course.

While this is melting, glue the saucer and tea cup together using the hot glue gun. Hot glue dries very quickly. However, it is very hot, so make sure you have a rubber mat under the tip of the glue gun and be careful handling the gun. If you get hot glue on your hands you will get burned, it will leave a welt, so if you do have a pair of work gloves even, it does not hurt to use them.

Once the cup and saucer and together and the glue is dried, begin pouring the wax into your tea cups. Do not fill all the way to the top, fill it as full as you would an actually cup of tea.

Allow the wax to dry completely. Wax cools and dries quickly, so it will not take long.

Now that the wax is dry, begin attaching the small trinket onto the saucer of the with the hot glue gun. You can attach the ribbon at this time as well. Maybe have the ribbon go through the handle and onto the plate with the text that is printed face up and the trinket glued next to it. Here be creative and figure out the best lay out before gluing.

Your all done with your baby shower tea favors! If you do make a mistake with the glue gun, you can always put the item in the freezer. Hot glue once frozen will peel off the item it is attached to.
