Last.fm is a web site and program that helps users come together and share their musical interests with one another. It started as a program called AudioScrobbler and quickly grew into one of the unique ways to listen, share and discover new artists on the Internet. This is just a quick overview and look at how to use Last.fm to share music with friends, family and strangers. By giving Last.fm a try, you can share music, find new music and enjoy the company of audiophiles all over the world who share the same musical tastes as you.

What do you get for signing up?

By signing up at Last.fm, which is your first step, you will be able to create a profile and download plug-ins for your music player of choice. It does not matter if you use iTunes, WinAmp or Windows Media Player. Last.fm has plug-ins that will work and auto-load when you open the programs, to upload your music statistics to their web site. Once you have listened to music and it is uploaded, the web site compiles a list of your top artists and songs. It shares this information with other users and that creates compatibility profiles so that you can meet neighbors who share the same musical tastes.

What next?

Once you have made some friends and begin building your own music charts, you will also discover communities. When you join communities, your music charts are joined with others and create bigger charts of people's favorite artists and songs. You can also tag your music, creating radio stations that can be listened to on the go as long as you login to your account. There are also a bunch of free MP3 downloads from undiscovered artists who want to connect with users through Last.fm who might enjoy their music.

If you enjoy discovering new music, Last.fm is the way to go. The more you explore the web site, the more you will realize you can find some truly great music there. Not only will you discover this new music, you will meet new friends who are into the same music as you. There is no better way to find new artists and bands than by recommendations from the fans that love them. Check our Last.fm today and see what discoveries you can make.

What are the opportunities on this site if you're an artist? For example, I compose piano pieces and although I can't play them yet, I can upload a finale mp3 of my computer doing a pretty good job playing it. I'm an artist on iLike, but I was just wondering how much benefit I would get from being on Last.fm as well. Great hub, by the way! I did not know about Last.fm at all.

Cybermouse:

There are a lot of ways artists can share their music on the site. You can register as an artist account, upload and share music, create your own bio and even search out people who might be interested in your sound. It's about networking, but thanks to the way the site analyzes people's musical interests, it's easy to introduce your music to people who are more likely to enjoy it.
