Pregabalin

Medications for social anxiety have been used for sometime, doctors prescribe different kinds of medications depending on the severity of the problem and on each person tolerance to the drugs, some cause side effects that need to be closely monitored by a doctor.

Pregabalin is another drug medication that clinical trials showed to be effective in treating generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorders, epilepsy and other kinds of disorders.

In an 8 week study it was shown that Pregabalin is effective in treating and relieving the symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in 65 year old patients.

So as you can see studies show that Pregabalin is effective in treating GAD and Social Anxiety. However before you try any drug medication you must consult with your doctor and let him prescribe you, some drugs have bad effects when combined with others.

Also most drug medications have side effects that you must be aware of, Pregabalin may work for you or may not, it depends on each persons response.

You should also know that the only drug medications approved by the FDA for treating social anxiety are:

  • Paxil
  • Zoloft
  • Effexor

That doesent means that they are the only effective medications, your doctor can prescribe you Pregabalin and get good results from it. You should only take drugs for a short amount of time to avoid dependence to them.

To this day the most effective way to overcome social anxiety is psychotherapy, most people want a quick solutions that is why they take drugs, especially if they disorder is very severe, but without a psychotherapy the results will just be temporary.

Once you understand the source of your fears and how you can change your negative beliefs to positive ones, you will start to really improve. That doesnt mean that medications dont help, is just that you must be careful.

Ask you doctor about the different medications available and what is safe for you, go regularly with your doctor so he can monitor your progress and avoid dangerous side effects.
