If you either outsource your blogs or sell them, there is a new company for handling of both authors and clients in the freelance article writing market. The company is called Textbroker and is quickly becoming a rising star in the industry.

Compared to other freelance websites, Textbroker succeeds in its simplicity. There is no advertising or gimmicky hustle on their front page. It is very straight forward as one side of the page is for clients to log in and get information and the other is set up for potential authors.

It you are someone looking for small single articles delivered quickly, this is the website to use. Sites like Elance are so bogged down in bidding for big orders that it can take weeks before you even get a good author to write one article. With Textbroker, you can begin immediately and get some feedback within a few days, sometimes that same day depending on what you are seeking.

Textbroker uses a rating system for you to decide on the quality of the article. If you are just looking for a simple 300 word article that you are going to rewrite on the fly, then you would choose one or two star quality. If it is a 500 word piece that you want with polish, you could choose for a five star writer to compose the piece.

Before any writer can work for Textbroker, they must send a sample article that gets reviewed by the editors. This article decides your overall rating for articles you can write. After you have written five articles, Textbroker reviews your submissions and recalculates your rating.

I can’t stress enough the simplicity of this site. Response time is relatively quick for author/client relationships, money is transferred immediately upon approval, and the navigation of categories is simple.

The rates for clients depend upon the ratings and whether it is an Open Order for any author or a Direct Order from a specific author.

Price Quotes from Textbroker.com

OpenOrder Rates

Fixed price, according to requested minimum article quality

Minimum Quality

Price per word

2 stars: legible 0.010 USD

3 stars: average 0.014 USD    Convenient for large volume orders

4 stars: excellent 0.020 USD   Recommended for time-sensitive orders

5 stars: professional 0.067 USD

Example: You have a 300-word article that you’ve placed at level 3. Your total cost for the order is $4.35. Your article may be written by a 5-star author, but you still pay the 3-star rate.

DirectOrder Rates

Personalized Pricing by the Author

DirectOrders allow direct pricing with the author, completely independent of rating.

Authors set their price per word themselves, and can create special customer rates.

Your displayed rate includes Textbroker’s commission of 25%

The minimum price for DirectOrders is $0.019 USD per word. (price including commission)

The only drawback I have had from this site is on the author side. After I submitted my initial five articles, my account became frozen until they were reviewed. The site administrator told me this would take up to a week, but they still have not been reviewed. I did contact them directly and they stated that they have a flood of work and are backlogged by a week and are hiring new staff next week. Response to emails was almost immediately, and they were patient and polite enough to ask me to quit bugging them.

This means to me that this is a growing company that is serious about becoming a great market for freelance writing and has more than enough work for both clients and authors.

I've been using textbroker for about a month now and have written 14 or 15 short articles. I love it! They pay as promised, and I've never had a problem with the articles. You're right -- they seem a little back-logged this week, but normally they've been quite responsive. The client orders include specific directions such as what keywords to use, how often to use them, what other sites to read for background info, etc. They'll even tell you whether they want a formal or casual article, etc. I like it!

This looked great and I went to the website to sign up but you have to be citizen or resident in the U.S. What a pity! I don't understand why it can't be open to all or any authors to try but there we are. Good luck with it and I truly hope you do well. Aunty,x.

Ok, so I'm new to this freelance gig. I signed up with Textbroker and submitted my introductory piece and I am waiting for approval. My next question: There's no way to claim a writing credit for work submitted, right? When I grow up, I want to write for magazines and/or news publications and they often want writing samples. Can anyone tell me if this is possible on Textbroker? Nothing was stated either way on the FAQs. Thanks for any light you can shed on this for me!

Yes, it's truly a pity that Textbroker doesn't let authos outside US claim writing gigs. I have signed up once missing out the part where I have to provide the pin and soon after got a 3-star status. When I claimed the payment they asked me for my pin number. At this time, I contacted the site admin and they came to my rescue. After a couple of emails were exchanged, I was asked to withdraw my author status and my PayPal account was credited with the due amount.

These guys are truly honest and it's been great working with them. I wish they will soon start hiring writers outside US as well...
