The title of a recently released CBS News article is "Republican McDonnell Leading in Virginia". Let's analyze this in hindsight, knowing that McDonnell has now defeated his Democratic challenger, Virginia State Sen. Creigh Deeds.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs started off: "I DON'T THINK (that) by looking at the two gubernatorial races, YOU CAN TELL WITH ANY GREAT CERTAINTY WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN A YEAR FROM NOW". If Republicans keep winning "a year from now", the president WILL REALLY HAVE SOME SERIOUS PROBLEMS. In fact, Mr. Obama should be starting to feel the heat NOW because he needs the nation's governors to implement his policies on a state level. We have to wonder: is this another example/instance of Democrats RUNNING/TRYING TO HIDE FROM THE TRUTH (i.e. that the GOP has at least SOME clear momentum)?

Moving on to the New Jersey gubernatorial race, incumbent Democrat Jon Corzine was fighting for his political life against GOP challenger Chris Christie. Christie won.

According to CBS News' chief Washington correspondent Bob Schieffer, "I think there, IF Corzine does PULL OUT a victory, it's not going to be so much because Barack Obama came there to support him". OK, the euphoria over Obama should be long gone now. And the fact of the matter is that Obama isn't doing very well right now because HIS MISSION FOR HEALTH CARE REFORM IN 2009 HAS PRETTY MUCH GONE UP IN SMOKE. So we have to get away from this notion that a politician will do well just because Obama supports or endorses him. "It's going to be because he poured a lot of his enormous wealth into NEGATIVE CAMPAIGN ADS against his opponent", which reinforces what Christie can't do, but not what Corzine CAN do and in order to win you have to prove your own worth and Corzine evidently didn't do thatAlso, "if" is not a word of confidence.

Finally, according to Nick Ayers, executive director of the Republican Governors' Association, speaking on cbsnews.com's "Washington Unplugged", (suggesting that we can hear about EVERYTHING that goes on in Washington, even the stuff that happens behind closed doors, if that's possible), "IT'S A GREAT INDICATOR of what's going on at the national level. AND WHILE I DON'T THINK (that) IT REFLECTS DIRECTLY ON THE PRESIDENT (a clear contradiction to "It's a great indicator"), I do think (that) IT SAYS A LOT ABOUT HIS AGENDA (yet another contradiction to "I don't think it reflects directly on the president"; so the president's agenda is not a reflection on him?). It's an agenda that Bob McDonnell HAS CAMPAIGNED AGAINST and Creigh Deeds HAS FOUND TOUGH TO DANCE AROUND". SIMPLY POLITICS, with opposing candidates going after each other and Republicans are experts at that art.
