Vietnamese is famous for its "Pho" and it is enjoyed by people all over the world. Although Pho is enjoyed by many, there are many other Vietnamese dishes that you can try. In this hub, we will explore Vietnamese cooking and Vietnamese cuisine in each separate regions of Vietnam. All these regions, namely Southern, Central, and Northern of Vietnam, have different ways of cooking and the tastes are also significantly different!
Southern Vietnamese Cooking
The South is famous for many types of dessert which are somewhat equivalent to smoothies, shakes, or pudding. The Vietnamese called it "chè" (in the North, this term has a different meaning, it is equivalent to "tea"). Chè is (or should it be: "are" since Vietnamese usually left out the plurals and it will still OK) and there are many kind of chè) served as cold and hot. However, since Vietnam is such a hot, tropical country, many people enjoy cold chè more than hot chè. Basically, you can eat chè for lunch or dinner. But, of course, it is often for socializing rather than enjoying it as a meal. As you can see, the people from this region prefers a sweet taste and it also reflect that in their cooking. They tend to use a lot of coconut or coconut juice to sweeten their cookings.
Central Vietnamese Cooking
The people from Central of Vietnam is famous for many dished made from flours, especially tapioca. There are many dishes that can be made from flour such as: rice flour, and noodle flour. Hence, this central region is popular for its dumpling (no, not the typical Chinese dumpling that you have for dim sum) and miscellaneous other types of dumpling wrapped in banana leaves.

Lissie, what's steamed spring rolls? I don't think those were steamed!
do you know how to make viet fish sauce?
Pho is one of the best soups I have ever had and I can never look at plain chicken noodle soup the same way again.
this is not done yet, I guess.
I like viet foods, especially egg rollls
I live in Houston. You might as well call it China Town in the south. My fav right now is the bbq sandwich but I've been substituting the general french bread with a croissant. Tasty!
spoon, I hope you meant "bánh mì" (or kind of like French breads).... I think we both have the same taste. Actually, there is only one place that actually is very popular here in GA. I haven't liked it at any other place.
I love Chicken Pho soup because I don't eat beef very often. It is my favorite soup and I always feel much healthier after eating it. Do you have some Vietnamese recipes you can share in a Hub?
Hi Vietnamese, your profile girls are very cute. May be you & your sister's baby pic's. I like many of the Vietnamese dishes, one of them is Roti Quail (BBQ Quail) very delicious plus the fried noodles, rice paper rolls. Also deserts because they are same as Thai deserts. Please visit my Thai recipes hub and have a look.......
Hi Vietnamese,
I just realized that I made a spelling mistake for Desserts, it is definitely not Sahara desert. I was comparing Thai & Vietnamese Desserts.
Mr. Nice,
Thanks for you comment. And no, that's just two little girls whose parents are our family friends. I am checking your hub out also.
Sounds delicious, unfortunately I cannot find it in Indonesia.
I love to cook, especially ethnic cuisine, but have never prepared Vietnamese food even though I enjoy eating it, I'll have to check out some recipes and give it a whirl.
