These pictures were taken during the Australia Day celebration (26 January 2009).

Sydneysiders were able to take a ride through the city as you would have 40 years ago. As part of the Australia Day celebration, a fleet of Vintage buses from the Sydney Bus Museum operate a route through the city, it was a unique and fun experience for the young and old alike. I enjoy the free ride at the top deck of the green double decker bus, it is a great opportunity to enjoy the charm of this transport and the city view.

These buses have been restored and now housed at the Sydney Bus Museum at Old Tempe tramshed, Gannon St., Tempe.

1949 AEC REGENT III

The body design of these single deck buses closely resemble the style of American buses of the 1950's and 1960's. Various Hollywood movies and TV series made at that time, depicted similar style vehicles in street scenes.

This bus was nicknamed "Mr Whippy". The name was a trade name for a company operating mobile Ice Cream Vans. Employees likened their appearance to these vehicles which were a local phenomena at the time.

1949 AEC REGENT III  would make a great tailgating bus here on my campus. Very interesting idea for a hub.  I like it.  Thanks.

Interesting and good to see pix with your explanations...I remember seeing a double-decker bus many - many- years ago, and it was an exciting deal!  I used to be able to name all the different kinds of cars when they drove by too...that WAS a long time ago!  Enjoyable hub that brought back memories. Thank you.
