Plan a Vacation in Canaan Valley West Virginia
74If you are looking for a true mountain getaway than Canaan Valley, West Virginia may be what you are looking for. Canaan Valley lies on the highest valley east of the Rocky Mountains. Because of its altitude it hosts two ski resorts, Canaan Valley Ski Resort and Timberline Ski Resort. You will even find cross country skiing here as well. Canaan Valley State Park is located here, a wild life refuge is here, and just down the road is Blackwater Falls State Park. Nearby attractions include Spruce Knob(the highest point in West Virginia), Seneca Rocks,(a large rock face wall you can climb to the top of), Dolly Sods, Ottercreek Wilderness, and access to hundreds of miles of hiking trails in the Monongahela National Forest. I can go on and on about the natural beauty of this area but you need to see it to really appreciate it. Besides skiing in the Winter, there is hiking, mountain bike riding, and horseback riding in the Spring & Summer, and in the Fall there is leaf peeping; Autumn colors in this part of the state are just as good as you would find in any New England state. Whats nice about all this, is the fact that it never gets too crowded.
Other Attractions
There are a few family style restaurants in Canaan Valley. Just north of the valley in Davis you will find a few more restaurants including a local brewery. Than just west of there towards Blackwater Falls State Park you will find the small town of Thomas which has the distinction of being home to a very unique and popular coffee house called the Purple Fiddle. They have live music there on a regular basis. In Thomas you will also find a really awesome art gallery called Mountainmade.
Lodging in Canaan Valley
There are plenty of of lodging choices in the area. You can find lodging in Canaan Valley State Park, Timberline(vacation homes/cabins), and more cabins/homes in the valley as well as outside the valley. Mountaintop realty, located in the valley, has a large selection of rentals. You will find some that have hot tubs, jacuzzis, have a few acres and back up to state park lands. You may also want to check vacation rental websites such as vrbo.com,vacationrentals.com, vacationrentals411.com, rentalo.com, perfectplaces.com, vacationrealty.com, alwaysonvacation.com, findvacationrentals.com. If you have a dog you may want to consider bringing your dog along. Many of the rental homes will allow dogs for a small fee. Between all these rental agencies and all the numerous rental homes and cabins you are bound to find a place to fit your budget and your tastes. Be sure to check to see if the rental has bed linens, a fully supplied kitchen, a washer/dryer, a tv(if you want one), cell phone service(many places out in the country don't have service). No major interstates running through it is probably one of the reasons it has kept so beautiful. Very little commercialism but a ton of outdoor activities to do. Did you get a chance to look at my hub, Canaan Valley in Photos ? Thanks for your nice comments.

I've never been to West Virginia, it looks beautiful. It's one of the few states I haven't visited (because no major east west interstates run through it). Excellent job! I'm looking forward to reading more of your hubs.
