Friend or Foe of the Unemployed? Nay Votes on Unemployment Benefit Extension Bills 2008-2009

Has long-term unemployment affected you? If so, have you laid in your bed at night, tossing and turning, wondering how you are going to pay the rent or put food on the table? With 7.2 million people out of work and six workers for every job opening, it's not a matter of whether people want to work. As of September 2009, the national unemployment rate was 9.8%. Because of the way they calculate unemployment, the unemployment rate may actually be 10% higher. Furthermore, many economist expect the unemployment rate will rise even higher, and this will be a "jobless recovery." No matter what way you want to cut it, it is just plain hard to find job.

Are Your Elected Officials Representing You?
In light of this, it's important your elected officials are representing you. It seems like every time another unemployment extension bill is introduced, it's taking longer and longer to pass the bills. By the time the bills were passed, thousands and thousands of people had already exhausted their unemployment benefits.
Many of the unemployed are rightfully scared and frustrated. Some are stating it's time we take back control of our country. Well folks, considering the way our legislative system works, there are only two ways to do this civilly. One, let your voice be heard. Two, elect the right people into office.
The following charts list all representatives and senators that have voted against at least one unemployment extension bill during this recession. Representatives and senators who have voted no or voted no and abstained three times are in bold. If an elected official has voted no for all three unemployment benefit extensions, you can pretty much bet that they are not a friend of the unemployed. While they enjoy a life of luxury and privileges, some people are trying to find a food line to eat at or a homeless shelter to sleep in for the night. Don't let this inexcusable behavior persist when our country is hurting. Write your elected officials now and voice your opinions and concerns.
Conclusion
If unemployment is one of your concerns, I hope you print off this list and save it. Next time, your Senator or Representatives are up for re-election, you can refer back to this list and vote appropriately.

We need to get the HR 3548 passed and now not after more families lose everything they have worked for all their lives. I agree with Dianne lets all vote to stop their medical and payroll and see how fast they reach a decision.

I understand how you feel; my unemployment ends in a week. If one your representatives or senators are the nay voters on this list, write them. Let them know you know how they voted. Even if they're not on this list, write them. Tell them they urgently need to pass this bill. This is the only way something will get done.

Major media has a lot to do with the apathy toward the unemployed. Kate Plus Eight, the Duggers and total focus on micro stories has refocussed the American consciousness and conscience as well. Our government is setting us up as a third world nation complete with a domestic oligarchy and exploitation by foreigners who have already proven successful at ravaging their own countries. Huge parts of this country are owned by foreign interests who do not mind have an educated servant class. After unemployment, most of us will find ourselves underemployed. Silver lining stories aside, that is the reality for most of the people who have had to accept any work at any salary.

Does any one know an expected date for the release of the benifit extention funds?? I am falling into the depths of poverty....waiting is killing me.
Instead of wanting Congressmen to simply vote for an extension, wouldn't it be better for them to create a better environment for jobs so you wouldn't need to collect unemployment?
Once you've voted for all the Democrat handouts, after your extension runs out, what will you do then? It just seems odd that people are deciding their years-ahead future based upon if someone pulled the lever to help you out for another 13 months.
And I'm not suggesting pull the lever for a Republican. Many of them were part of the problem, too. I'm just suggesting that you vote for people that, HISTORICALLY, have made better long-term economic decisions.
Why is the tax credit for buying a new house attached to an unemployment bill? Stupid people in senate an bill righting!! Pull your heads out of your asses!! What good is that tax credit for people like me who lost there job, marriage, house and most everything else from having to sell assets to try and make ends meet being a single Mom with ex who don't pay child support because he could afford fancy attorney because he had job.

H.R. 3548 passed in Congress today. Tomorrow President Obama signs it, and it will be enacted into law.

And why do you think voting no is the right thing? Don't you realize the real uneployment rate is almost 20%? When Sen. Byron Dorgan spoke on the Senate floor yesterday, he echoed approximately the same figure. He knows his economics. He used to be a college professor of Economics. Furthermore, there's more than six unemployed workers for each job opening. How many can realistically get a job under those conditions? Just be thankful you have a job and don't have the hopeless worries all the unemployed have gone through the last month.
