The LG Voyager was the first cell phone release after the Apple iPhone that sought to directly contend with it. When the iPhone was released, nobody thought another phone could compete. However, the Voyager shapes up to be a worthy alternative in next generation touch screen cell phones.

The Voyager allows for the same types of functions the iPhone does. It includes a QWERTY keyboard, a built-in web browser and doubles as a MP3 player, camera phone and Bluetooth-capable device. It allows for up to 8 GB of additional microSDHC storage. This storage space allows you to hold ringtones, music, photos and videos.

Since the WiFi capabilities are accessible through the Verizon Wireless network, you will have to add a data package and Mobile Web usage in order to gain access to the Internet. This is similar to features available on the AT&T network and accessing the iPhone's WiFi network; however, jailbreaks are available to overcome this limit. The iPhone allows for a wider range of jailbreaking as well, while fewer hacks and mods are available for the LG Voyager just yet.

The touch screen is hyper-sensitive, and while you can adjust individual settings, it does take some time to get used to. The QWERTY keyboard also is an alternative to using the touch screen for responding to text messages, surfing the Internet and interacting with the different functions of the phone. The speakers, too, produce an amazing sound quality so even when using speakerphone you will hear clearly and crisply.

So, is the Voyager an alternative to the iPhone? Yes, in most cases, it is. It also serves as a cheaper alternative to Apple's device and allows you to take advantage of Verizon Wireless' network as opposed to being stuck within the confines of AT&T's coverage. If you are looking for a device as cool and sleek as the iPhone and are a current Verizon Wireless user, the LG Voyager will do you justice.
