Walk to relax and get fit

I recently wrote about walking as a great way of being healthy. When I'm writing a lot, I go for lots of walks. It allows me to relax and refresh my mind/body/soul/spirit for the next bit of writing.

At this point I'm writing a huge amount for the 100 hubs in 30days challenge and I have to come up with at least five new ideas a day (actually more as I'm still writing a few posts each day on my various blogs - especially my main blog at Life Focus Center).

Last time I went for a walk (I'll walk again immediately after this post) I came up with a whole slew of titles for more Hubs.

Take notes while you walk

Unfortunately by the time I came home I had forgotten all the wonderful ideas I had for what to write. So now I know that I'll always carry some form of notebook (small), audio recorder, index card or other tool to record my ideas as soon as they come.

One thing to note is that most ideas come from you unconscious. And your unconscious needs thanking and encouragement. Thus if you go for a walk and your unconscious gives you twenty ideas and you forget them your unconscious will stop giving you more ideas.

But if you write them down and then work on at least some (not all are going to be good - the selection comes from your conscious mind especially after checking the keywords for marketability), then your unconscious will provide you with even more ideas....

What to do once the walk is over

It is best that as soon as the walk is over and you are in front f your computer to open an ideas file in you word-processor and enter all the titles and ideas for articles. Some you may use immediately. Others you may keep for later use.

Some you may know enough information about and others you'll slowly do research on. As you do research you can take notes in the ideas file until you have enough data and you can transfer the title and notes to its own main article file and remember once you have the main article you can always reuse the content.

Some ideas I came up with

My firefox browser crashed (I had three windows and many, many tab open). I restarted it and had to wait so I went for a short walk. I noticed two things:

  1. You have to relax to allow your unconscious to really work well for you and come up with a lot of ideas. That's why walking is a great way to come up with ideas as it typicall relaxes you.
  2. Ideas typically come as parts of stream of consciousness.

Here are some of the ideas:

  • Tale of two software engineers - I remembered this software engineering fable and will write about it soon.
  • Photographing local sites - We have the largest Buddhist temples in the Western Hemisphere near our house and it was visible from the walk.
  • Smell and memories - I passed some wonderfully smelling flowers and remembered to write about this.
  • Sun Vitamin D
  • English Language vs. American
  • Balance
  • Mad dogs and Englishmen - just the title for now.
