Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco
65
The Walt Disney Family Museum - a salute to the life and times of Walter Elias Disney - debuts at the Presidio in San Francisco on October 1, 2009.
The Museum is part of an effort by the heirs and caretakers of Disney's legacy and corporate empire to accurately portray the man behind the Disney brand, and correct some of the misconceptions and falsities that have been peddled for years.
The Museum contains galleries choc-a-bloc full of Disney stories and his work - with listening stations, interactive media and over 200 video monitors.
You'll get to see never before seen videos, home movies, animationsĀ and personal items created by Walt Disney - which will be used to tell Disney's story in his own voice, aided by the contributions of friends, family and those who knew him well.
This includes Disney's sketches and early plans for Epcot and Disneyland and his 'Steamboat Willie' animation sketches.
One of the driving forces behind the effort to set up the museum is Disney's only surviving child - Diane Disney Miller, who says she got sick and tired of watching the media repeatedly malign her father's name and work with incorrect portrayals. Diane is one of teh founding members of the Museum.
In addition to the 10 permanent galleries, the Museum also offers a 114-seat screening facility,a learning center, museum store and a Cafe.
Down the line, starting in 2012, the Walt Disney Museum will also start hosting additional temporary exhibits.
