Beauty of flowers :

The flowers in nature are a beautiful sight for the viewers. They increase the beauty of the garden or parks where they are grown.

Veggie flowers :

Vegetable flowers are those which bloom before a vegetable grows in a particular plant. Many of them go unnoticed, but some are very beautiful.Their presence gives a pleasant look to the environment they grow in. They are rarely used as food, But many a times they are used for flower arrangement purposes and be more decorative in flower vases.

See it, Smell it, Eat it :

Most of us concentrate on the taste of vegetables. We seldom look at the beauty and variety of the flowers that grow in their plants. So, we are unable to see their color varities also. Flowers bloom in a plant to develop seeds or fruits in them and some plants bear flowers just for the sake of flowers. We all know much about only these kind of flowering plants. But there exists a different world of flowers in our daily consuming vegetable plants. It is not being noticed by many of us. Flowers vary according to the vegetable that grows. Let us step into this beautiful flower world.

Flowering in a vegetable plant

Many people usually water the plants early morning. It can be clearly seen how many flowers are fully bloomed and how many of them are still in the stage of buds. This is a normal way of observation by anyone who cares for the plants. While watering the vegetable plants, keen observation on the flowers, clearly display the beauty and colour variety in these plants.

Normally, there is no similarity in the colour of flowers and vegetables growing in a plant. Only the colour of Brinjal flower nearly matches the vegetable growing later in it.

Colour and size variations

In some vegetable plants, eventhough the flower that blooms is white, the growing vegetable will have a dark colour. As the flowers in those plants bloom facing the ground, the vegetable too grows in the same way.

There isn't any sign of bitterness when a yellow flower blooms in the Bitter gourd creeper. Flowers with long sepal always swing and move in air pleasantly, attracting many insects towards them. Only the formation of petals and their overlay vary from one another. Flowers of a Cucumber bloom in between the leaves and attract the Honey bees, early in the morning.

Ridge gourd flowers are big like the vegetable that grows later. They graow over the leaves facing the sun. In Tomato, colour and size are no similar. Small yellow coloured petals grow in a stem with green colour of almost the same size. Flowers grow in bunches. Later the growing Tomatoes will also come out in bunches. Tinder flowers have clear white colour. They grow on dark green coloured creepers, scattered here and there. Ash gourd flowers are white and big. Small white coloured flowers of Green chillies have their own attraction. The flowers grow in such away that they outnumber the leaves. The flowers almost make the leaves invisible in this plant. We see a lot of Chillies growing out of them, later. Green beans bear dark pink flowers and are very much attractive to look at. Having a long stem, they grow on the bottom side of the creepers. The flower of Lady's finger grows like a microwave antenna, along the path where there is lot of insect movement. The inner portion of flower is brown in colour. Radish flower has a light blue colour and they grow in small bunches.

Would be good to taste these vegetables by imagining the beauty of their flowers. Cooking also becomes a fantastic experience, then.

Thank you Jerilee Wei, Ripplemaker, Bob Ewing and Jeniferr, for your appreciation. But the real appreciation must go to our mother nature who gave them a place to grow and nurtured them. She is the original 'Nugget' who inspired me to do this. Dear friends, your good comments is a support for me, now and always.

It really (I'm embarrassed to admit this) never occurred to me that there was a potato flower. Great idea for a hub -- I'm going to look at me spuds with new respect, now!

^@Dottie1: Thank you for congratulating me and commenting here.

^@Teresa McGurk: Potato plants tend to flower more in regions with long cool, moist growing seasons. Thanks for commenting with your point of view on these flowers.

Great Hub! Sometimes we are so focused on the fruit of the plant we don't take notice of the beauty of the beginning.

Beautiful pictures. One of my favorites is the okra flower. Deeply exotic in the throes of the summer's heat. Thank you for a lovely hub. Good luck on the HubNuggets nomination!

This is way cool! Thanks for sprucing up my morning with purdy flerwers. =)

I do have a couple of suggestions, which may make this article a bit more neato..

-How about providing a link to some recipes involving these plants?

- Your paragraph head lines are rather utilitarian, and get their points across with no problem..how about 'flowering' them up, though? For example.. "Vegetable flowers go unnoticed :" could be... "See it, Smell it, Eat it"

Great article, overall, however. =) Welcome to HubPages!

That's a good advice from u, Generique. I accept it. My point of view is that someone reading the topic must also enjoy it. I'll do anything for that.

Amazing photography here.. we never think about this beauty while eating our greens... children must be taught about these beautiful flowers, this may help them eat their veggies!

Yes..Neha, we must create awareness about the nature among the younger generation and also let them know what we gain later. Protecting and nurturing these beautiful plants should be a part of our routine life.

Fascinating! I've seen a few of these flowers but not most of them. I had no idea how beautiful and interesting they were. The onion and garlic ones are especially amazing.

Flowers and Orchids have always been attracting the entire human community. But these veggie flowers go unseen most of the time. Their beauty might be visible to us only when our way of viewing them changes.
