Are Warm-Up Exercises Really Important?
70Stretching is important.
No matter what physical activity you're involved in, warm-up exercises are essential and they must be done correctly, as well. Warm-up exercises, a main fitness routine in and of itself sometimes, is extremely important to any workout regimen.
Relaxation is also an important part of any fitness
routine.
Various warm-up exercises differ
in their intensity, length, and structure, depending on which training, workout
or sport you're involved in. While warm-up exercises come in different
types, they still have two distinct similarities.
The first similarity deals
with warming up in general. The goal of warm-up stretches and exercises is to get the entire
body ready for an effort it is about to exert. By doing so, the temperature
of the body will also increase. General
warm-ups should last around ten minutes before it is considered actual
aerobic training. In aerobics, the body takes up glycogen, so there
is always that risk of losing all the energy before anaerobic training.
The second similarity deals with warming up to a particular sport. This means that the actual joints and muscles that come with the exerted effort are warmed up and are helped to anticipate the rest of the movements of the training through simulation. These warm-ups last a bit longer than general warm-ups and come with various kinds of joint gymnastics, such as jumping, stretching, and speed exercises. These warm-ups shouldn’t take too long either, though, since physical energy should be spared to get rid of mental stress. Mental stress is usually more prominent than the physical effort exerted in various sports, such as tennis, fencing, and target shooting.
These two similarities in warm-ups
should come successively, as mentioned. Their order should not be switched
around and none of them should be skipped. Sadly, a lot of people who
participate in sports tend to miss out on one stage because they think
the other may be more important. This should never be done since these
exercises heighten the temperature of the body. Otherwise, the body
will not be ready for the proper training itself, leading to a less effective workout or performance.
Doing warm-ups the wrong way
or completely leaving them out could greatly increase the risk of accidents
while competing or training, such as muscle cramps, muscle rupture,
sprains, hernias, and dislocations. Even if these accidents don’t occur,
the body will still suffer from decreased efficiency in each exercise.
Warm-ups are essential for novices, so that they can make it a habit, and get their body ready for a strenuous workout, so that they can lose weight fast.

We actually do warm up exercises at work. It's a good opportunity to talk about the daily activities and potential safety concerns while also getting your body ready for the day.
I love to work out and there has been times I skip streching big mistake...
Thanks for this. I'm sometimes tempted to skip my warm up session but this article sums it up quite well as to why there so important.
I play weekly a game of called laser tag . One day a saw someone severely damaging his ankle just because he tried to jump of a platform and because the muscles were not ready for the effort, he couldn't land a decent landing. And that's the case for any type of sport, from tennis to snowboarding. A couple of minutes of warm up exercises can really spare you a a lot of trouble later.
