Wearing a Japanese Yukata in Summer

Summer Yukata

The Japanese Yukata is basically a cloth kimono worn from the right to left sides, and tied with an obi sash and worn with geta, wooden sandles. The Yukata is generally worn during summer during the Hanabi Festivals where young women and (sometimes) men will wear a light cotton yukata to the park to watch fireworks and drink alcohol. Young children will often wear multi colored varieties.

Other times you will also see the Yukata is at a Japanese Ryokan where you are supposed to wear it after spending time in the Hot Springs (Onsen).

Most times the Yukata is unlined and made of cotton or other synthetic fibers. It's not nearly as expensive as a Kimono nor does it take as long to put on (trust me, putting on and taking off a Kimono takes FOREVER).

Since there isn't much else to say I'll make this hub more about the pictures than the words. Enjoy!

Great Hub! Thanks for sharing your experiences of Japan -it is the first I've heard of a Yukata, but I do love the kimono, it is no doubt one of the most elegant attires in the world. I will definitely check out the rest of your hubs to find the difference between the Kimono and the Yukata.

Ahhh, no problem! I"m glad you like it. Yep, the difference between a Yukata and a Kimono is definately not very public in the west. Basically a Yukata is affordable and a Kimono you rent...Yukata is simple, Kimono is difficult. etc...etc...=)

Thanks for stopping by!
