What does conversion rate mean?

When someone said conversion rate when I was talking about my website with them, I didn't know what they were talking about.

Well, I didn't want to feel like a dummy so of course instead of saying anything, I thought of my trusty internet and decided I would read up and find out what everyone was talking about.

The answer was a lot easier than I thought but here is what I found out:

A conversion rate when it pertains to a website has to do with the amount of customers that purchase products in relationship to the number of potential customers that come to a website.

So, a customer comes to my website and looks around at the products I sell and tries to decide what they like.

Once they locate the product and think they might like to buy it, they may or may not continue to check out. They have already come to my site so therefore they go into the category of the consumer. Now, if they purchase then they go into the purchasing customers category too.If they leave they just stay in the customers column.

Total customers 100

Total purchasing customers 2

Conversion Rate 2%

Therefore, your conversion rate is the percentage of customers that actually purchase from your website while visiting it.

So... if you want to make more money... obviously you need more customers to purchase.

Then that means we want a higher conversion rate!! Now I understand and I hope you do to that people use the term conversion rate while talking about websites because it means more money!

Thank you for this information. I have my resume posted on a website, and consistently have been seeing a rather low conversion rate compared to the number of views. Now I know I need to do an overhaul on my resume because a higher conversion rate like will translate into more job interviews.
