Wedding Planning

Planning a wedding is no small task, even if opting for a conventional, traditional one. Modern trends, however, tend to veer towards differentiation, even in the smallest of details. The easiest examples to quote are the writing of personalized vows instead of using the standard "for better or worse, richer or poorer". How different any wedding is going to be depends on the bridal couple.

No matter what the wedding ideas are, one of the many factors to consider before deciding to go on a different track is its suitability to the guests and event. Wearing a low cut, figure-hugging wedding gown, for example, is hardly suitable for a wedding with a predominantly conservative guest list. Instead of bestowing smiles of admiration, the guests may well frown upon the bride as she walks down the aisle. Another aspect to think about is if these differentiations will add costs and if so, how much is acceptable. In all considerations, the keyword to remember is compromise - while it is wonderfully unique to be flown in by helicopter, it may be wise to consider if it is really necessary at the end of the day.

One of the best wedding ideas anyone has ever dished out during this hectic time is the formula: Keep Things Simple. As uncomplicated as that sounds, you will discover that it is easier said than done. Stay focused on your wedding list and tick them off as you go - once you have found the beautiful wedding dress within your budget, book it and tick it off the list. And no matter how strong the temptation, do not falter as you will only be piling on extra stress. Remember that as long as you are alive and shopping around, there will always be better dresses, more delicious cakes and prettier floral arrangements. Shut your mind (and your eyes) off them and move on! You will find that your list will soon be finished and, if luck is on your side, way ahead of schedule.

Personalizing Your Wedding

One way of getting your wedding ceremony personalized is to get your whole family involved in it; it should not just be your dad who is physically active during the ceremony. During the bible readings for a church wedding, for example, get your brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, even nephews and nieces up to the pulpit for the read. Not only will it be fun for the rest of the family to witness, it will also make your wedding more personal to them.

Another wedding idea is to theme your wedding and to name it as such. The Saturday Night Fever wedding, for example, can carry off the theme of the 70s, which means everyone has to be dressed according to the era or the movie. Dressing up to a theme may take a little bit of work on the part of your guests who may be pleasantly surprised that they will really have to go shopping for the appropriate clothing. Nonetheless, the element of fun and expectancy is there and you will find that both you and your guests will be looking forward to the event if not for anything else, just for the chance to dress up differently.

Another wedding idea is to make a different kind of entry into the ceremony or reception. Instead of the usual sedate walk in, you could be carried in on a carriage-like transport or dramatically ride in on a real life horse (side saddle of course). Just let your imagination free and you will find the perfect entrance to start off your otherwise conventional event.

Wedding Reception Ideas

Wedding receptions usually follow the ceremony either right after it or a few hours after. Western weddings commonly have theirs right after the ceremony at a venue close by while Eastern cultures prefer to have it as a totally separate event altogether. Either way, receptions are always seen as the less formal part of the wedding festivities and what better way to start these fun parties than with unconventional ideas. Try having your wedding reception themed either after an era, color or even movie. Let your guests enjoy lots of laughs as they get decked out in all shades of purple or dressed up in their old "flower power" shirts and bell bottoms.

Even your wedding cake can be different. Instead of the multi-tiered white or cream cake, pick a cake in a shade that is appropriate with your theme - the color purple, for example. And instead of the normal cream cake, have a tiramisu or ice cream cake. As for wedding favors, leave keepsakes that are practical like disposable cameras or personalized polaroids. Other equally usable souvenirs are napkin holders, paperweights, photo frames and tea light holders. You can make them appear unique by engraving them or decorating them with a little bit of glitter, tinsel or colored ribbon - all of which you can do yourself.

Whoever is doing the planning must remember that good wedding reception ideas need time to get sorted out and executed, so planning a good six to twelve months before the actual wedding date is encouraged. Otherwise, the formula of Keep Things Simple should be the call of the day.
