The Weight Loss Cure "They" Don't Want You to Know About review
49After seeing the infomercial about The Weight Loss Cure "They" Don't Want You to Know About, and almost buying it, I decided to do a little research and do a "The Weight Loss Cure "They" Don't Want You to Know About" review.Boy am I glad I did my research! Here is what I found about the book. Below that is what I found out about Kevin Trudeau.
In April 2007, Trudeau released a book, titled The Weight Loss Cure "They" Don't Want You to Know About. The book describes a three-phase multi-month plan originally made famous by British endocrinologist A.T.W. Simeons in the 1950s. The first phase involves switching to all organic foods with repeated colonic and liver cleansing. This is followed by a second-phase period of daily hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) injections under the direction of a health care provider. In Phase 3, use of hCG stops, but food must continue to be 100 percent organic. Other recommended activities include walking an hour a day or more and doing breathing exercises.
Critics note that as early as 1962, the Journal of the American Medical Association warned against the Simeons Diet. In 1976, the FTC ordered clinics and promoters of the Simeons Diet and hCG to inform prospective patients that in their opinion there had not been "substantial evidence" to conclude hCG offered any benefit above that achieved on a restricted calorie diet. Clinical research trials published by the Journal of the American Medical Association and the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition have shown that hCG is ineffective as a weight-loss aid.
However, one double blind study showed those receiving hCG lost twice as much weight as placebo group (The Asher Harper Study) Effect of human chorionic gonadotrophin on weight loss, hunger, and feeling of well-being. American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Feb 1973; 26: 211 - 218. It should be noted that at the time of the study W.L. Asher, MD was a member of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians Research Council.
The online consumer watchdog group Consumeraffairs.com has received many complaints about the book. Additionally, the FCC has filed a contempt-of-court action against Trudeau alleging that the alleged misrepresentations in the book violate a 2004 consent order.
Here is what I found out about Kevin Trudeau.
Federal Court Finds Kevin Trudeau in Civil Contempt
On November 16, 2007, a U.S. District Court judge found Kevin Trudeau in contempt of court for violating a 2004 permanent injunction. The Court found that Trudeau violated the permanent injunction when he misrepresented the contents of his book, “The Weight Loss Cure ‘They’ Don’t Want You to Know About,” in several infomercials. The permanent injunction banned Trudeau from using infomercials to sell any product, service, or program. The ban contained a narrow exemption for infomercials for books and other publications, but specifically required that Trudeau not misrepresent the content of the books. Judge Robert W. Gettelman ruled that Trudeau “...has misrepresented the contents of his book by stating in his infomercials that his diet protocol was ‘easy’ and that it allowed dieters to ‘eat whatever they want,’ and he has misled thousands of consumers.”
The 2004 permanent injunction settled the Federal Trade Commission’s charges that Trudeau had falsely claimed that his calcium product could cure cancer and other serious diseases, and that a purported analgesic called Biotape could permanently cure or relieve severe pain. The appropriate contempt remedy for violating the permanent injunction is still to be determined by the Court.
