Weight Watchersas a program has existed since the 1960s and therefore has the longest track record of all diet plans. One key notion of the Weight Watcher philosophy is that weight loss is not simply about dieting.

For Weight Watchers, dieting is only one aspect of a complete approach towards weight management. As part of the Weight Watchers philosophy, health contains three essential domains, mental, emotional, and physical health.

Weight Watchers is designed to inform people about make healthy eating decisions and at the same time promote more physical activity. The theory is to lose weight sensibly and safely.

A key element behind the Weight Watcher Diet is the group meeting where dieters are weighed and listen to discussions about food choices. These meetings provide inspirational guidance and a collective sense of community support for those seeking to change their lifestyle.

Available Foods

Essentially, there are two different approaches or plans. A dieter may either choose the traditional Flex Plan which focuses on tracking the calories a person eats or the Core Plan that seeks to focus on eating wholesome foods without tracking calories.

In both cases, Weight Watchers has recommendations about daily intake of virtually all food groups. The Flex Plan is often called the point plan as each food is given a value based on three factors calories, fat and fiber. Then depending on the dieter’s weight, gender, height, and age, the person is assigned a certain number of points a day. Exercise is also factored into the point accumulations.

The Weight Watchers Core Plan stays away from counting points. Instead, a list of core foods is provided. Some examples are vegetables, fruits, whole wheat pasta, potatoes, lean meats, fat-free milk products and healthy oils. The key in the Core Plan is to consume only the portion size necessary to feel moderately full.

Weight Watchers is Extremely Safe

Unlike many other weight loss programs, Weight Watchers doesn't focus as much on dieting as it does lifestyle. Therefore, the diet aspect features excellent food choices with all food amounts consumed in moderation. The plan then backs up the desire for weight loss with the concept of exercise and a healthy living style.

One drawback for some yet a key component for others is the community style meeting. Many may prefer anonymity and therefore may be uncomfortable with being in a group setting dealing with this touchy subject, Weight Watchers on line is ideal for these people. On the other hand, some dieters feel that the reason they are successful is directly because of the camaraderie created by a group of people each looking to accomplish the same goals.
