Addiction step 1

Addiction doesn't nessesarily mean drugs are involved . You can be addicted to many things even people. Addiction can be mental or physical or both. Ciggerettes is an example of something that is both physically addicting and mentally addicting. I have heard people say they were addicted to chocolate and laugh but recent studies show that chocolate sets off pleasure endorphines in the brain , so it's probably not funny at all chocolate IS addicting just not AS addicting as other things. another example of addiction is battered women. They have the 'fix it addiction', If I could just be better , just do more , just be what he wants, if I do everything perfect he won't beat me. They have an addiction to men who abuse because they feel they can "fix' them. Not so the abuser is an addict just like the battered woman .He is addicted to violence and will use any excuse to batter someone. The point is no matter what addiction you have you need to recognize it as that , an addiction then you can start working on step 2 will power.

Will power step 2

Will power is the over coming force to not do something that you are mentally or physically addicted to. Will power is something that you have to muster up inside your head. It's all the reasons you can think of NOT to do the addicting thing rushing into your brain so you are able to covince yourself you DON'T Need it!Willpower is thinking of all the people you are hurting (including yourself) with your addiction and then saying '"NO" to whatever the addictiion is. Will power is something YOU have to fuel because only YOU can say '"NO" when it is YOU that is addicted.

Changing the circumstances step 3

The most important thing about trying to break an addiction is changing the circumstances surrounding the addiction. Someone addicted to food doesn't need to go to the all you can eat food bar. Someone that is addicted to chocolate needs to stay out of the candy store. It's pretty simple and Basic where ever you are when this urge happens you should stay away from there. The other important thing is WHO you are around when the urge hits needs to change. If you are addicted to crystal Meth and your best buddy is too and you do it together all the time , you are going to have to change your circle of friends. The people who have the same addictions as you or cause you to have the urge to do the addicted thing has got to go! I guarantee if you are around the same people that you have always been around while you had the addiction and acted on it you will crack and let the addiction go on.No will power in the world can hold up to your buddies saying '"come on man just this once" that is a fact. Even if you say NO the first time or even the first few times eventually you will fall back into the same addiction.

The Follow Through step 4

a real mistake that addicted people make is believing that they are over their addiction. Once addicted to something always addicted to something. It's just like in AA when you say," I am an alcoholic" you will always always be an alcoholic and you will be subject to fall off the wagon if you think , "Oh ,I can handle this, I'll just have one or two drinks" . Like alcoholism other addictions are the same. Oh I am no longer called an addict so I'll just do it once and it won't matter.WRONG!!!!!once turns into twice then once a week then before you know it you are back to the same old habit maybe even worse because you KNOW you have fallen off the wagon and this knowledge makes you feel miserable and hopeless. To follow through You must not EVER do the addicted thing again!!
