what do lawyers do?
60What do lawyers do? You might find yourself wondering this, when you hear about how much they earn! And besides, even if your just curious, its a cool topic to ponder over...especially when you are thinking if law might be for you.
Lawyers are in charge of interpreting the law, on behalf of clients, in matters of legal debate. Lawyers are experts (or are supposed to be) in the laws of the land relating to the type of law that they specialise in. Some lawyers are criminal focused, some are focused on matrimonial law (divorces!). Its a little hard for one lawyer to cover every aspect of the law, as there are hundreds and hundreds of laws that apply in the USA, so this is why a lawer will specialise in an aspect of chosen law.
Lawyers dont just spend all day in courts, arguing with Judges on points of law. They spend a hell of a lot of time researching topics, researching cases, preparing notes and interviewing clients about legal matters.
A lawyer might also spend hours and hours on the phone, settling matters, talking to clients and resolving legal disputes. The lawyer really does have his or her hands full!
So, if your thinking about doing law, and have been wondering what do lawyers do, I hope I have answered a little bit of this for you!
