What writing does for me
57My past
I never thought of myself as a writer. In fact, I never considered myself particularly good at writing. I am very good at putting sentences together, but expressing myself and my ideas, I have never done that. In fact, when I look back, I was not even very good at essay writing, report writing, papers for studies and that kind of thing.
In fact I always thought I was better at expressing myself orally. After all that is what I had to do
in my chosen profession.
So what happened? Suddenly I am writing and several pieces a day. No, I don't post them all on the same day. Who wants to be spammed? There is so much to read and write that maximum one piece a day is posted.
But writing is something else. Writing is a great way of expressing oneself. Especially the kind of writing that are done on blogs and with articles. It's short, it can be written really fast, and it's
fun. It is a easy way to express those thoughts and ideas that have been rolling around in my head for a long time, without have a place to express them.
Of course we are here blessed with the internet. In the days before internet, how and where could people like you and me get ourselves published? And for free? And even make money with it, if that is what we want.
Another reason for blessing the internet.
But I am straying - back to my writing.

Where I get my ideas
I have many ideas in my head already, from the various hats that I have been wearing and am wearing in my life. I also have my caps, and they also give me ideas.
But I also get ideas on what to write by reading other peoples blogs and articles. I get inspired by them, without considering if I agree with what has been written or not. I also look at requests and questions. That gives me two things: things to write about, and understanding what
interests others.
So why has it taken me so long to start writing?
Well, I might not ever have started writing, if it wasn't that I began marketing myself via the internet, and not just via off-line sources. I created a blog, Lessons of Life Coaching, and in order to fill it up I had to start writing. Then of course I discovered hubpages and all the other great article submission sites.
I started reading blog posts and articles, good ones and not so good ones, even bad ones, at least in my opinion. This rating has nothing to do with content, only with style of writing, clarity in the presentation, that kind of thing.
I learned about leaving comments, and did so, and through that I made friends, and read even more, but now less specific, not just related to my field, but many others. The more I read, the more comments I make, the more friends I make the more feedback I get, and it turns out that I can write.
Writing is a great way of expressing oneself. Especially the kind of writing that are done on blogs and with articles. It's short, it can be written really fast, and it's fun.
Having fun is after all one very important thing to do in all things.

I think people were born to write. I wrote a poem about why I write. The last line reads, "we did not choose writing; writing chose us".
Hi birte, You are a good writer and seem to express your thoughts and opinions very easily and effortlessly. I have enjoyed all of your hubs.
Thanks all. This was probably one of the most fun hubs I have ever done.
Pete if we are born to write, why has it taken so long for it to get to me? Good one to ponder.
Hi Birte, I feel the same as you did. I am late to this field of writing but find that I am enjoying it very much. Also meeting new and interesting people along the way is a great perk.
Peggy, glad to hear there are more people in the boat with me. I find that hub is as much a social networking as publishing site.

I agree, writing is an excellent way of expressing yourself, even if nobody ever reads what you write. Some people keep journals, which is what blogging is. You can journal online now and share your experiences and ideas with whomever is interested. I love to write and I cannot imagine a day when I don't write. Thanks for this Hub - it is reaffirming.
