If you use a WordPress blog, chances are you have wanted it to do more than just what the basic installation does for you. Mods are a powerful way to change the way you and the web interacts with your blog. By simply installing specific modifications or hacking your way through the source code of WordPress, you can add to the blog and make it more your own that you thought possible.

There are two primary ways to find WordPress blog mods: From WordPress itself or from third parties. By going through the WordPress web site, you can find the latest modifications, themes and other add-ons for the software. These mods are approved and researched by WordPress itself and are proven to work with the blogging software. However, it is important to note that a faulty installation on your part can cause problems, and even destroy, your WordPress blog.

If you are not finding what you are looking for with WordPress' mods, you can also search for third party modifications hosted elsewhere. Keep in mind that going this route is more risky as these mods are not approved by WordPress or tested by their staff. This can prove problematic if you are modding, run into issues and cannot find a solution. WordPress cannot help you find a way out of such problems during the modding process, although you may be able to find help through the third party developer, web site or forum.

Utilizing WordPress blog mods are an easy way to get more out of your installation. With just a little bit of effort, following directions and taking the time to get it right, WordPress mods can be both an asset and a curse for a blogger. If you do not know what you are doing, you can cause a world of harm to your blog, but if you take your time and find the right mods, you will have the WordPress blog you dreamed of.
