Whey protein for women

Don't be afraid of whey protein. It can help you to lose weight, increase your fitness, and maintain your health and well being.

What is whey protein?

Commercial whey protein comes from cow's milk. Whey is the natural by-product of making cheese and was usually thrown away as a waste product. However, scientists discovered that whey have some extremely good benefits- whey is a high quality, natural protein that is rich with amino acids, which are essential for good health and muscle building. It is also naturally found in mother's milk and is often used in baby formula. Although protein is also found in other foods such as meat, soy and vegetables, whey protein is proven to have the highest absorption (digestion) levels in comparison to all others. It also has an extremely low lactose (fat) level. This makes it an excellent food for women to consume when training or dieting to reduce body fat.

Why do athletes use whey?

Protein levels are depleted through exercise. Muscles require amino acids to prevent deterioration, give endurance and build mass. Proteins supply these amino acids to the muscles which is why athletes use whey protein. If you want to gain muscle you have to make sure you have the building blocks for it. Women need protein the same ways that men do so do not be afraid of it. And don't be put off by the thought of doing resistance exercises with weights and gaining muscle! You will not bulk up (see below), in face quite the opposite will happen, with an increase in muscle your body will burn more calories, thus helping you to lose weight. Many proffessional althletes supplement their existing diet with whey protein, as well as creatine, in order to improve their performance. But they are also extremely useful in regular existing weightloss or fitness regimes to improve your iown results and well being.

Why do I need to take whey?

Because it is an easy and convenient way of getting your daily protein levels up without having to cook or consume excess fats or carbs. Don't think of whey protein powder as a “supplement” as such (like creatine or glutamine). Protein powder is a food. To say you wont get results from taking it is like saying you wont get results eating chicken breast or tuna salad. Its just an alternate way of delivering protein into your system. Your body needs the protein after a hard run or resistance workout in the gym to repair the damage you've done to your muscles. I use protein powder because I go from the gym to work, and it's an easy way to grab a meal immediately after spinning or circuits class. Its extremely convenient, and also very tasty. I just take my shaker filled with about 1-2 scoops of whey with me and just add water. At home I take it in the evening with skimmed milk (It tastes better with skimmed milk than with water).

But will taking whey protein bulk me up?

NO, this is a common misconception. Women lack the hormones that men have that allow them to get those large bulky muscles. By taking whey women will get an overall toned appearance without looking like the Hulk. Those body-building women with huge man like muscles you see on TV more often than not achieve their unusual frame by injecting additional hormones or supplements into their body. With the use of whey you will not look turn into a female hulk!!

Is whey protein dangerous?

Whey protein is a food and so it does not have have the risks associated with other supplements. That said, too much of anything carries risks. You may experience bloating or digestion problems if you consume too much. Extremely high use of whey protein can overload the liver which can cause serious problems. Balance and Moderation is always the key! If you are lactose intolerant you might try whey protein isolate which has less than 1% lactose and should be tolerable for most users.

Whey protein is a natural and healthy way for women to bring protein into their diet. It can help women to control weight, stay healthy, and increase well being as part of a balance diet and exercise regime.

I have just created a hub on organic whey following your comment patti. Organic whey has more health benifits than regular whey as it dosnt contain many of the toxins in non-organic products. I found it difficult to find 100% organic though as many are 80-90& organic with added flavourings etc.
