Introduction to BNP

The British National Party is a british political party on the side of the far right.

They enjoy much underdog success as an alternative to the loss of the identity of the British Kingdom, with some radical proposolas to the way the current is run.

Never short of their contreversal views, they generate alot of media attention, and even more protest from people who associate the party with racism, more closely connected with the skinheads of the 1980s, who supported them after their formation as a political party.

History of the BNP

The BNP where formed in 1982 from a smaller group known as the British National Front.

The founder was John Tyndall.

Much of the perception of the BNp comes from this mans background as a neo-nazi, and he was convicted of incitment to racial hatred, and in 1986, he was jailed 3 times.

The origins go further back than that however. During world war 2, there was a small group known as the British Union Of Fascists, which is one of the main roots that has paved the ideologys of the party today.

Political Position of the BNP

There has not been a candidate of the BNP elected into the house of commons.

In the 2005 General elections there was 119 BNP candiates across Scotland, England, & Wales. The BNP managed 192,850 votes, which was an average gain of 4.2% across its existing seats, and a nationwide hold of 0.7%

In the 2007 Scottish Parliament & Welsh Assembly elections the BNP was represented also. The Welsh assembly fielded 20 candidates, with the Scottish Election fielding 32.

Controversally, this entitled the BNP to public campiagn funding. They ended up recieving 1% of the total vote, and gained no seats.
