Let’s take a second to think about it - some form of wholesaling is how most people in a retailing position make money – sell the product for more than you paid for it. Give your customer a fair price and you pocket the difference. The traditional lemonade stand where the child buys lemonade in ‘bulk’ then resells the lemonade in individual servings can be looked at as a form of wholesaling.

The Internet gives you great opportunities in wholesaling whether you just want to buy without a middleman or you are looking to build a store front from the comfort of your home computer. With online access, you find great resources for acquiring and reselling wholesale purses.

Product Choice is Key

You can get great prices on great stuff but if it just sits around your house -- what good does that great price on great stuff do for your pocket book. (as well as adding more ‘stuff’ to your house) So choosing the right product at the right price is an absolute must in your wholesale decision. To look at this point, you need to consider profitability and demand.

A. Profitability - If you are looking to wholesale, then you are looking to make money or find a real deal for yourself to save you money. The product must be able to resell to your end customer at a rate that pays for your time invested. For example, if my goal is to make $20 an hour selling dog collars to individual owners, then if each collar had a $2 profit, then it is pretty simple. I would have to sell 10 collars each hour. This $20 figure would need to include all my research time, listing time, packaging time, etc. You must think through the product choice as compared to the profit margin to make sure you are not wasting time with a product that is really not going to bring the profit you need. Which brings up a good point of knowing what you need to make. You must know before you start the dollar amount desired or needed to make wholesaling purses a profitable business for you. These goals need to be defined by real numbers. On the other hand, if you are looking for a purse at a wholesale price for yourself. Then by finding a quality purse at below retail meets this profitability criterion.

B. Demand – If your goal is to make money, you must find other people to purchase your items which means you must find out if there is a ‘buying market.’ This term ‘buying market’ is key. It may be dumb to say, but “BUYERS ARE KEY.” The best product in the world with NO BUYERS is just not going to be profitable for you.

I have written pages of ideas for online niche markets. At times, when I turned to do the research I found that, yes, there are people looking for the information but it was free information. For example, outdoor activities to do with small children could be an idea. But, most of this type of information is given away as content on sites that make money another way on the site. If you cannot figure out a way to make money on an idea or a side note of an idea move on to the next idea.

Market Research

This short article cannot give you all the information on market research but here are a few suggestions and free tools to get you started in the right direction.

A. www.freekeywords.wordtracker.com will show the amount of traffic a keyword receives over a certain period of time

a. The link above is completely free. There is a paid version of wordtracker than can be purchased daily or annually.

B. Go to www.yahoo.com, type in your search term into the box, press enter, you should then see an arrow pointing down in the left corner of the box.


If you press the left arrow, this will give you related keyword searches. You can then take these suggestions back to wordtracker to see how many people are looking for these related search terms.

 

C. Go to www.google.com. Type in your search term. Scroll down to the very bottom of the page to see a list of related search terms. You can again take these related search terms back to wordtracker to see about the volume of traffic.

 

D. Go to www.ebay.com to look at current auctions of your target product. Then do a search to view the sold items. Remember the current listing research is to view the market to see what the competition it doing out there. Since you only make money when you sell, you must look at the sold items to see what is really going on. EBay also has an option where you can view the hot trends. You can see what products are really in demand on eBay. Type in http://pulse.ebay.com (with no www) to see the 10 hottest items and top sellers on ebay. If you are looking to purchase a purse for yourself, the sold eBay items will give you a guideline at to what different styles are selling for.

 

Network, Talk to Everyone

 

I invest in real estate. In one of my first real estate classes, my instructor said ‘talk to everyone, let everyone know what you are doing.’ In the offline and online business world, you should be talking to everyone about your business or what you are looking for. Online networking includes talking with people in forums, corresponding with e-commerce site owners, following different people’s blogs and talking with eBay sellers about their business. Simply ask them where they find their great products. You will be pleasantly surprised how willing they are to help.

 

People like to help people. If you treat the person with respect, they will most likely help you or point you in a helpful direction. Any advice they give you will expedite your searching. I would suggest you send a hand written card to the person for their help if you have a mailing address. At the very least, send a thank you email. Gratitude will get you a long way in the business world. Do not be afraid to talk to those who you see are doing great on the Internet. You can accelerate your wholesaling purse business by learning from others, as well as, find out where others purchase their purses.

 

Reliable Product Place

 

I’ll wrap this up with an often overlooked item. If you are looking to build a great wholesale purse business and not just find super designer purses for yourself, then reliability is critical. You’ve done the product research, you’ve done your homework to make sure there are people looking for what you have, and now you are ready to roll. The only thing that can trip you up now is having a supplier who doesn’t meet your needs. Having a dependable supplier is critical to your long term purse selling success.

 

With a quick search online, you will find thousands of sites claiming to have the real deal. Here is where your networking will come in handy. If you find a site in which you think will work you can order a small order to test the service, reliability and product. But you can also talk to people to find out if anyone has used that company before. Use online forums and blogs to get this information. Gathering feedback will help you make more informed decisions. There will be some trial and error with a learning curve involved as there is with any business. But every lesson learned puts you one step closer to profitability. There are paid directories, which are great, and some that are not worth it. Either way you will learn every step of the way.

 

Wholesaling purses is both fun and profitable and as well we girls know, owning a great designer purse (purchased of course at wholesale) is just plain NECESSARY.
