So now I find out about what the ADA calls in-office whitening. They say it works a lot better than what I have been doing. Now I start to call dental offices. I find out that the average cost for in-office whitening is $300-500 and . . . . . . you have to go back. Once is not enough.

What it was really all starting to come down to is that I discovered the stuff you can buy over-the-counter just don't have a strong enough concentration of Carbamide Peroxide (the active ingredient) to really whiten your teeth when they are as yellow as mine were. Most of the stuff you can buy over-the-counter contains only 12% Carbamide Peroxide. The stuff the dentist's use is 22% and in some extreme cases 35%. I began some more internet research because I want to know if I can buy the stuff the dentist uses and apply it myself. Again, some of my more affluent friends tell me they had it done by a dentist and all he did (not even HIM, his assistant) was to put the gel in a tray and place it in their mouth for 15 minutes or so. The Dental Quality Tooth Whitening Products That Are For Sale Online Are Very Confusing When You Try To Figure Out Who To Buy Them From (and what to buy)

Try doing a Google search for tooth whitening products. The number of places that sell them is STAGGERING. What is equally overwhelming is the little bit of information they provide when you are trying to figure out what to buy. Some websites make the product look very attractive and package it beautifully. And some make it look like they are really giving you a lot for your money. If you really investigate it, most of them are not.

Here is what I found out. The websites that emphasize the amount of product you get are in most cases selling you the gel in 3 CC syringes. Well if you have never done this before, you are probably are going to squeeze out the entire 3 CC on your first application. After I learned a little more about how to do this, I found out that you only put a tiny amount in the impression tray where each indentation is that represents a tooth. Then when you put the tray in your mouth, it flows up and around each tooth. I discovered when I did it right, that 1 CC of gel was good for around 4 applications.

Let me be blunt. The people who are selling the 3 CC syringes are ripping you off. It's much more expensive to buy it this way. You are MUCH better off buying what is called a GIANT 10 CC syringe. You should get up to 40 applications and in most cases, it's about the same price.

Here is the other thing they don't tell you - what concentration to buy. If you start out with 35% gel you will very likely burn the living daylights out of your gums. Start out with 22% and build up to a longer time leaving it in your mouth. That way your gums can get used to it. If you really get used to it and want it to work faster, THEN use the 35%.
