Wireless Headphones For Better Television
70My Sony Cordless Headphones with Charger
Sony, Headphones for Sanity
My honey and I had been bickering on and off for weeks about the television volume on the fateful day I wandered into the Brookstone outlet store. I wasn't planning on purchasing a thing - I was killing time on my way to lunch with a friend.
As I wandered the aisles, picking up the various gadgets and resisting the urges to purchase, gadget slut that I am, I came across a simple pair of headphones that stopped me in my tracks. They were sitting there on the shelf, marked down 50%, calling my name. They didn't look all that special, but I knew instinctively that they would solve our television volume issues, so I bought them, and I never looked back.
I assume you know what I'm talking about when I say television volume issues? My honey is a contractor, surrounded by whirring power tools all day. when he comes home he likes the television all the way to 11, while I am happiest at more of a 4. Then again, he has a legitimate gripe as well. I'm a night owl, who likes to watch television into the wee hours, long after he has gone to bed in preparation for his early morning start the next day.
What do you do? For years we had been sucking it up and occasionally fighting over television volume, when lo and behold, Sony came to the rescue. I'm certain we are not the only couple who has this problem at a young age, and I'm equally certain there are others of all ages who have suffered hearing loss, or who live in an apartment with room mates who wish to sleep, who could benefit from getting their own set of headphones. Are the Sony headphones the only ones available? Absolutely not! they are simply the ones I bought personally - there are many other options out there for all price tags. I'm going to walk you through a few after the jump.
TV Hear Personal Speaker
Comfort, Convenience, Consideration
I think the Sony Cordless Headphones I bought (pictures above) are quite comfortable to wear. They are very light weight, and with the wider band they don't slide around on your head to cause any rubbing or discomfort. My honey also finds them comfortable to wear. More importantly, they were incredibly easy to install - even the most technologically backward can plug them into the color coded plugs in the back of your television or cable / satellite box. They also have a charger to keep them at the ready for anytime use - no batteries to buy. At $19 USD on sale the price was certainly right as well! (If you don't like Sony products, just do an Amazon search to find a brand that suits you better.)
Some people may not want a cordless model. I know my grandfather thought things without cords were invitations to disaster, and that's fine - everyone is different. For those people I'd recommend looking into one of the corded models. There are several brands on Amazon and other sites to choose from here, most under $50.
If you don't want anything on your head at all, or perhaps have an oxegen tank or other medical device that makes anything else around your head or neck a discomfort or a hazard, you might like the stand alone TV Hear brand personal speaker. This is also a wireless device, but it is handy in that anyone can just sit next to it to use it. Also, if you are only losing your hearing on one side, this might be one way to accomodate that that doesn't leave you cut off from conversation or isolated in a room alone.
Whatever solution you choose, just know that you don't have to suffer from hearing loss (or make others suffer from your hearing loss) - you can still watch your favorite shows in peace with one of the many gadgets out there to assist you.
