The Top 10 Wii Games for Ages 13-17

If you have a teenager, you probably know more about them from their Facebook account than through old fashioned conversation. You know that you are far better off to Twitter them about when dinner is ready than to actually walk upstairs and enter their room. Teenagers are curious creatures, but one thing is certain; they know their gaming very well. Most of them grew up on it, and had mastered Super Mario Brothers before they were three.

You really need to be discerning when it comes to selecting games for teenagers. It’s very easy to buy something that is too young for them, and far be it for you to insult their maturity like that! While most 17 year olds would not have a problem playing some of the more violent games around, you may wish to keep your 13 year old away from them. Of course, every child is different and it is up to you to decide what is appropriate for your teenager and what is not.

Teenagers are the biggest consumers when it comes to Wii games. It makes sense for Nintendo to focus the majority of their marketing on them.

Naturally, it would be great to get your teenager playing something educational, as they probably are ignoring their homework to play the Wii instead. This is much easier said than done. Instead, focus on games that are entertaining but still appropriate for your teenager.

Here are some of the most highly recommended games for teenagers, held in high regard by parents and teenagers themselves.

1. Wii Fit

If you have a Wii, you must get Wii Fit. It really is one of the best games out there. Test and monitor your fitness while you hone your skills at a range of mini games that canvas cardio, strength, yoga and balance activities. Encourage your teenagers to be active in a fun and non competitive environment,

2. Super Mario Smash Brothers Brawl

Super Smash Brothers Brawl is easy to play but difficult to master. Like many of the Super Mario Games, the graphics are easy on the eye. This game is focused around battle, where the characters of Mario’s world face off against each other using their various skills.

3. Super Mario Galaxy

Another adventure with the portly plumber. This time you need to save Princess Peach from the ghastly Bowser who has abducted her to an alien planet. Plenty of fun mini games. This one is appropriate for young teenagers and does not have any violence in it, with the exception of jumping on those mushrooms.

4. Okami

beautifully designed game, it is compared by many to the Zelda series of games with is mixture of puzzle and action styles. Placed in time somewhere in Japanese history, make your way through the story at your own pace as Amaterasu, the white wolf.

5. Guitar Hero

If you have not heard of this game you have surely been living in a cave somewhere. Build your skills as a master guitar player, strumming along to the tracks you know. Play well and you will please your band mates and have the audience fall at your feet. Play badly and you will be booed off stage. The newest addition to the series, Guitar Hero 5 is due out on Wii in September. Like World Tour, it is designed for four people to play in a band together and will come with plenty of accessories.

6. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

While this delivers less than any of the other Zelda games, it is still worth the money. Like the other Zelda games, Twilight Princess combines platform, action play and puzzles, as you make your way through this fantasy world on your quest.

7. Madden NFL 10

This one is going to be a huge hit with boys, if you are struggling to come up with an idea for a son, brother or nephew Madden NFL 10 is a safe pick. There are some excellent new features with this addition, including tackle moves, multiplayer options and slower gameplay for a more realistic experience. The soundtrack features artists such as 2-pac which is also going to prove popular with teenagers.

8. No More Heroes

This is definitely one of the better action games for Wii, however its focus on real world issues makes it a little more socially responsible than some of its competitors. There is still violence in this game, with the ultimate aim being to kill the top ten assassins in the city.

9. The Conduit

If your teenager loves shooting games, you can’t ignore this one. You may wish to pick up a Wii gun to make the best of this game. Based in a futuristic WashingtonDC, it is your mission to save the city from a hostile Alien take over.

10. New Super Mario Brothers

This upcoming November release is sure to be high on the Christmas wish lists of many children. The latest installment in the Super Mario Brothers looks to be just as fun and entertaining as all of its prequels. For the first time in a Super Mario Bros game, up to four players will be able to play at one time. The layout of the game is much like all of the Mario games, the graphics are better though. Players can help each other out, or play in competitive mode..
