The Top Wii Games For Kids
76The Top Wii Games For Kids
One of the great things about the Nintendo Wii is the great range of games. There really is something for everyone. Serious gamers and those who are new to Nintendo have all found something that they like to play. There is also a great range of Wii games for kids.
There are plenty of fantastic games around for kids but some just stand out a little more than others. Good kid's games are easy to learn but difficult to master. They encourage coordination and activity. If you have recently got a Wii you can’t miss some of these classics.
Wii Sports Resort
It almost goes without saying that Wii Sports is one of the best games for children, and the newest Wii Sports Resort is THE game for 2009. There is little button pressing, most of the play takes place by moving the remote around which is picked up by the sensor. It’s great for developing hand-eye co-ordination. The games are short, only lasting for a few minutes. You can also try your hand at sky diving, basketball and a whole range of resort style activities. As you get better at the games, you skill level increases, meaning that the game gets harder. Kids of all ages are able to play Wii sports resort without a hitch, in fact some of the best players around are only three or four years old.
Wii Play
In the same style as Wii sports is the newer edition Wii Play. There are nine mini games to play, all of which are easy to learn using the Wii Remote. If you liked Duckhunt back in the eighties, take you kids down memory lane with you in the shooting gallery. Based on the classic game, the shooting gallery is probably the best of the mini games. Also worth a mention is the billiards game, where the Wii Remote becomes your pool cue. If you kids are Where’s Waldo fans, have a look at Nintendo’s take on the book in the Find Mii mini game. Offering multi player mode for those who are competitive at heart, this is a great game for the whole family.
Mario Kart
Mario Kart is fun for all ages, especially enjoyed by kids. If you don’t have a
second remote it may be time to invest in one. Half the fun of Mario Kart is
the competitive environment. The steering wheel is also a great accessory. Keep
the game at 50cc for the little ones, this makes it a little easier. All Wii Mario games are fun for kids, but Mario Kart has been a fan favorite since its release.
Lego Star Wars
If your kids love Lego then you can’t go past some of the excellent Wii offerings. Lego Star Wars was the first game of this kind to enter the market. It’s unclear how anyone came up with the idea of combining Lego, Wii and superheroes, but once you’ve had a turn you will be glad they did. The graphics are fun, but not overly complex which makes them easy for kids to navigate. The only complaint would be at times the game is a little dark which can sometimes turn younger kids off. The controls are more complex than some of the other games mentioned here, but if your kids have been on a Wii before they should be able to pick it up.
Lego Batman
Lego Batman is difficult to resist; it’s Lego, it’s Batman and it’s Wii. Many adults can’t help but let out a little giggle to see their favorite superhero in Lego form dancing across the TV screen. Once you get used to the novelty you’ll forget about it and start protecting Gotham City in brick form as Batman. Kids have seemed to have more familiarity with Batman than with Star Wars, so you may find that this game is a little more popular.
Big Brain Academy
If you would like to sneak a little bit of education into your kids game time, why not give Big Brain Academy a try. Devised from the original DS game, the Wii version proves challenging for kids and adults alike. If you’ve played the DS, view the Wii version as more as a sequel than a reworking. The mini games on the Wii version are different. Your Mii is imported into the game, so if you have created it for another game you’ll be able to use it here which is always popular with young kids. There are fifteen academic based mini games which are divided into five categories; identify, memorize, analyze, compute and visualize. All sorts of skills are tested from mathematics to memory. You can either play the games on your own or competitively in multi player mode. You are able to set the level of difficulty over four levels, the brain teasers starting of simple but becoming quite complex. As you get better at the mini games your brain, as measured by the game, becomes larger and heavier, indicating that you are getting smarter every time you play. This may, or may not be the case in reality, but it probably isn’t doing any harm.

The Lego games - Lego Batman and Lego Star Wars - are some of the best Wii games for kids available. My kids have those two and play nothing else - really good fun, and they're forced to work together as well to complete them ;-)
Wii Sports Resort and Lego series games are great. My boy love them a lot. To be honest, I like them too :)

I really like Wii games and I've been looking for some fun games ever since I my friend had us play it at her place. Wii is so great as far as exercise for kids and adult and the most important thing is that it's FUN!
