Wikipedia is an information based, shared knowledge system that allows users with valuable information to add and create pages to help educate the public on a wide variety of topics. Generating traffic from Wikipedia isn’t all that difficult but it does require you to go through a rather specific process. One of the first aspects to consider is whether or not your website would offer source information. Does your website have content that a user interested in your specific topic would find useful and interesting? You can not effectively claim your website as a source if the user clicks on it and all they find are products to sell. Adding informational content will also help drive up your Google rating when you use and index appropriate keywords, which means your website benefits twice over when you add informational content.

Generating traffic from Wikipedia starts with knowing your information and being able to find any pages that are already written about the topic. You should be able to add at least two paragraphs of informational content before adding your website as a source. For example, if your website deals with dog training and dog training supplies, you could effectively add your website to any existing page that deals with dogs, dog training, rescue dogs, and even specific dog breeds. This is a wide variety of content that you could find useful. When you add to existing pages it is very important that you add information that maintains the integrity of Wikipedia. Otherwise you will find that you have wasted your time because other users can delete your link if they find it unsuitable.

Because generating traffic from Wikipedia is becoming more popular it is highly recommended that you use Wiki’s sandbox so that your content is sure to pass the content guidelines. This will enable you to make any necessary corrections should your content lack pertinent information rather than simply finding out that your input was deleted. The feedback can also help you improve your speed and effectiveness.

Do not sell. Your objective is to create encyclopedic—like information that will be beneficial to a user regardless of whether or not they ever click to your website. Once you have completed this objective, you can add the content to the page. You must create new content for each various topic. You will not find generating traffic from Wikipedia to be very effective if you simply add the same content to several different Wiki pages.

Once your content is added you can then cite your web page as a source. The link that you install must match the informational page of your website rather than just take the user directly to your home page. If your website has easy to navigate tabs the user will be able to find your product and ordering information easily. In order to remain neutral and informative, you should also add in links from other websites that can help back up your information. This helps prevent premature or inaccurate deleting of links from other users. Once you get through the process one time generating traffic from Wikipedia becomes another source for adding more viable users to your website.
