Let's discover great ideas for interesting conversation-starting Window Treatments!

FEATURED FABRIC WINDOW TREATMENTS

Here's a list of the major types of window treatments available:

  • Curtains: Curtains can be short enough just to fit a small kitchen window. They are usually attched to rings that are hung from a rod.
  • Types: Panels, Sheer, Country, French Country, Cafe
  • Drapes: Drapes are made from long billowing fabric and usually hung from traverse rods and topped with more fabric.
  • Types: Silk, Pleated, Pinch Pleated
  • Shades:
  • Types: Roman, Cellular, Roller, Honeycomb, Balloon, Austrian, Pleated, London, Skylight
  • Blinds:
  • Types: Vinyl, Wood, Minis, Faux Wood, Venetian, Vertical, Horizontal, Bamboo
  • Valances: Valances are a form of "Topper" for a Curtain or Drape. The Valance is hung across the top of the curtain or drape for a finishing touch to the treatment. They come ready made or you can easily make your own.
  • Types: Balloon, Box, Cloud, Pleated, etc....
  • There are so many types of Valances you can purchase and make yourself that the list could go on forever.
  • Jabots: A Jabot is an ornamental fabric cascade of ruffles or frills down the front side of a curtain or drape.
  • Swags: A Swag is a semi-circle piece of fabric that is usually draped between the main side drapes or curtains. Swags like Valances can easily be made to be the finishing touch on your window treatment. You can have frilly Swags, dramatic Swags, tasseled Swags, etc...
  • Cascades: A loose piece of pleated fabric that often accompanies a Swag and falls (or cascades) to the side of the drape or window for a nice romantic look.
  • Bishop's Sleeve: Two pieces of fabric hanging from a Swag or Valance on either side of the drape or window. It's usually cinched in the middle for a more formal look.
  • Scarf: A long piece of fabric that is typically wrapped around the curtain rod or pole to hang in such a way as to frame the window for a very nice and simple look. You can also use a "sconse" at either end of the window to wrap the scarf around so that it falls exactly at the side of the window.
  • FINIALS: These are the Finishing Touches on your windows. These are the decorative caps you put on the end of the curtain rods. They can be of any design or color just as long as they compliment the rest of the treatment.
  • Stained Glass: You can get a kit and make your own nice stained glass window have a craftsman do one for you.
  • Window Moulding: Here's where you can get creative with wood working tools. You can pick up some moulding at the home store and make eye-catching geometric designs for the windows.
  • Table Runner: I've used this one for an interesting "Topper". Design your window around a Table Runner (the colors, design, width, etc..). You can cut it and sew up the ends to match the width of your window or if you have a large front window just attach a long runner up there "as is." Make it into a conversation starter!
  • FRUIT TOPPER: Get any type of line (leather, basket weaving material, colored rope, etc) and attach Dried Fruit varying in shapes and sizes with a larger fruit of acorn down in the middle. Attach to both top sides of the window by wrapping around the ends of the curtain rod or a finial.
