Want to bring a bit of old fashioned sorcery into the graduation party? Depending on the kind of crowd you have invited or indeed the age of the guests, a wizard , magic or even illusionist style of party can be fantastic. The idea is rather excellent if your guests truly take part and make a real night of it, or indeed make the kindergarten party excellent. Magicians have such a huge appeal, but this is enhanced greatly if you make it appear as sorcery say in the style of Merlin. Think back to those great animated movies for kids about the English King, Arthur and see if you can use all this wizards and witches type of theme in the party. Indeed in many ways it can be just like a Halloween party except the focus is on the wizards and witches part.

For the kindergarten party it is most likely that you will use the kindergarten or a school gym. You do need to agree the budget and decide on the decorations and entertainment. Also the kids can help decorate some of the party decorations. Lets start with the decorations. Use murals and scene setters to give the boundaries and walls of the party the theme. They can be scenes from movies such as the animated Merlin and the animated King Arthur classics with the brilliant wizards and all their tricks. Draw the mural with friendly, dotty wizards and witches who do the right things and are on the side of good. Have posters and stills from any of these kinds of movies. Of course the kids can draw their own wizards and witches and they can be part of the decorations. There should of course also be evil characters which will do battle with the wizards and witches. Either at the party or as part of the preparations have the kids decorate their own witch or wizard hats and magic wands. Hang up creepy spiders and have safe, fake cobwebs. Have a witches cauldron and little potion bottles (empty of course). Create a magic potion book. In fact do any of the things that would decorate effectively a witches or wizards room. Even just looking at a Merlin film will let you see what is in the room that you can copy. Of course get the kids to help create the decorations. It Is also a party so have lots of balloons, streamers and tinsel too. Have an area to run around and play, dance and party! Of course mix in graduation celebrations with graduate photos, banners, speeches, gifts, tributes and caps and scrolls.

Try to get food to look like bugs, spiders, wizard and witch cake. Using jell-o you can create some strange colored potions which are really just flavoured treats. The same for drinks, for example using Gatorade you could say it is a magic potion.

Entertainment is important, as is games. Perhaps you have a magician dressed as Merlin or a witch. Have lots of party games with a prize going to each child for some reason.

The favors can be child safe magic tricks, wizard and witch hats, spiders, candy, coloring in books and pens, and a toy.

Costumes should be fairly simple to do. Our daughter decided she liked a $10 witch outfit which she wore to a Halloween party and it was very good. Again kids can decorate their costume with wizard and witch stickers, spiders and stars.

Music can be Merlin soundtrack and also great party music to dance to.
