Ever wonder why there are so many types of women's wallets? They come in every shape, size, color, texture and material that you can think of. This variety in women's wallets doesn’t only reflect the variety of women, but the moods and wants of one woman changing from time to time. One day she may be feeling serious and professional, and the next day it could be fun and party mode. It’s not schizophrenia, it’s just her right as a woman.

A Wallet for Every Occasion

As earlier said, the answer to the question why there are so many types of women's wallets is because a woman needs more than just one. They don’t do the “man” thing and just move the wallet around and hide it in an outfit’s back pocket, no sir, a wallet is PART of the woman’s outfit, like a pair of shoes, or a nice clip. Women's wallets complete the look, and women do notice these things even if men don’t. The wallet will often “go” with the shoes, the dress, and the occasion, and there can be a whole combination of that.

The upside of this equation is that giving a woman a good wallet can almost guarantee it won’t be one that will be “recycled” like the way letter openers will be if you don’t have their name engraved on it. In fact, one will be lucky if that’s all that will happen with the letter opener.

The Professional’s Wallet

Aside from going with the shoes, and the outfit and the occasion, a woman’s wallet will also often go with the bag, in the case of professionals, women's wallets has to match the briefcase for women, too. A common (and relatively successful) sales pitch for a bag is that it comes with a free wallet. Both will be made from the same materials with designs that complement each other in terms of utility and aesthetics.

The Nitty Gritty

No matter the size, or the materials, or anything else for that matter, there are a few basic “musts” that women's wallets have to have:

1.The “slip” pockets, where the credit cards and the business cards go. These can vary from the bare minimum of 2 pockets, to around maybe 10 pockets.

2.The ID window, for obvious reasons.

3.The coins compartment, somebody’s got to keep them.

4.The bills compartment (up to three divisions), to keep the small bills and large bills separate or to segregate the “budget” and the “to do” lists.

It’s a myth that women like having mirrors in their wallets, that’s what vanity kits are for, and getting powder make up all over your wallet is not fun.

The trend with men’s wallets is to make it smaller and sleeker to hide it in the outfit, but since women's wallets are part of the outfit, there’s no need to hide it: size doesn’t matter as much. Some wallets can actually hold a checkbook, a calculator, and even a mobile phone.
