Not since 1985, when the Kansas City Royals came back to beat the St. Louis Cardinals, has a team come back from a 3-1 game deficit in the World Series. In Game 4 of the 2009 World Series, the Philadelphia Phillies were trying to keep the New York Yankees from making the series just that.

After a game tying home run by Pedro Feliz in the 8th, Johnny Damons 2 out single gave the Yankees some hope to win and make take a 3-1 series lead. Then, on the very first pitch to Mark Teixeira, Damon stole second safely but with the infield shifted right, and nobody covering third, allowing Damon to then advance. Teixeira would then get hit by a pitch, allowing A-Rod to bat Damon in and regain the lead. Then, a deep hit by Jorge Posada scored both Teixeira and A-Rod, to make the score 7-4.

In my first blog about this World Series my prediction went like this; the Yanks would lose Game 1, and then win 4 in a row. While they're only one more consecutive win away from that coming true, they're faced with a dilemma... Beating Cliff Lee.

In Game 1 of the Series, Lee pitched all 9 innings with one run off an error as he lead the Phillies to a 6-1 victory. In Game 5 Lee will get the start in Philadelphia. If the yankees can find a way to score on him they will have no problems, but that happens to be a very big if.

The other issue which could prove to be an impasse for the Yanks in Game 5, is A.J. Burnett. On only 3 days rest, an already dubious pitcher may not be ready to go. However, if he can pitch somewhat decent and only allow 2 or 3 runs through 6 innings, I have faith in the Yankee bullpen to pull out a win. Then you take into consideration the way the bats have been swinging for the Yankees in Citizens Bank Park, 3 runs would not be too bad of a predicament.

Therefore, I stand by my earlier pick of the Yankees to win the World Series in 5 games. So long as the bats stay clutch as they have, New York should be able to get passed Cliff Lee Monday night.

For instance, Mark Teixeira is barely batting over .100, yet his 2 hits in the World Series were a home run to help the Yankees win game 3 and an RBI that gave the yankees the lead in the 9th inning of game 4.

Regardless of the outcome on Monday, at the end of the day, you'd have to be more comfortable in the Yankees position over the Phillies. With 3 possible games remaining, the Yanks only need to win one. The Phillies need 3 in a row.
