Writing an Email that will Sell

If you know about Email marketing, you know how important your Email is. You also know that you shouldn't be sending out messages too often, that it should contain a lot of good information, and that it should be polished. Here is everything you need to know about sending a great Email that is going to help sell your product and promote your website.

The first thing you want to do is get (or make) a template. This template is what you are going to fill in every month (or twice a month) when you send out your Email newsletter. A template is going to make writing this Email to your customers a lot easier, because you are just going to have to fill in the information that's different and your customers are going to have a nice, aesthetically pleasing Email. The template is going to have information on it that your customers are going to need every time, including how to unsubscribe to the Email list if they want to, your web address and perhaps even a link to your specials and promotions. Sure, you could send out this letter without a template, but a template is going to make your Emails look professional and uniform.

The second thing you have to consider when writing a good Email is that it is directed to your core audience. For example, if you are promoting your website that sells temporary tattoos, you probably want a lighter and fresher message than someone who is selling vitamins. A lot of times, business owners forget about who their audience is and end up alienating them by having an Email that isn't going to be suited for them. Sure, there are always going to be exceptions to the rules (for example, you might have an eighty year old grandmother wanting to buy temporary tattoos), but in general, you are going to want to write messages that are going to appeal to the vast majority of your customers.

You also want to make your Emails as interactive as possible. For example, you might want to have a trivia contest or a link that they can follow in order to get a discount. If your customers have to act when they get your Email, they are going to be more likely to visit your website, which may end up in a sale. If, however, you send them a boring Email, they are going to just delete it and not think about it again. When putting links in your Email, you should be really conscious of not putting too many. An Email full of links is just going to look cluttered and look like it is trying too hard to sell the product.

The final thing you should do is to have at least one person (and probably even two or three people) proofread it before you send it out. Sure, you may think that your grammar and spelling are pretty good, but if you have mistakes your readers are going to notice them. Sending out a polished and professional Email is important, even if the tone in your Email is not serious. Make sure that you don't use too much slang and that you keep the jokes innocent, even if you are promoting to a younger crowd.

Sending a good Email is difficult to do. This is your chance to make a good impression, and if you don't make a good first impression, chances are your future Emails are going to end up in the junk folder never to be read again.
