Wu Long or Oolong ?

Is Wulong tea really a fat burning miracle? Is it better than Green Tea ? Why does it have so many names ?
The main claim to fame of Wu Long tea is that it helps lose weight. There are so many wild and unsupported claims about foods and herbs that are supposed to help you lose weight. Wu long tea, which is being touted as the new weight loss miracle, actually has some scientific studies that back up the claims. However, you may discover that you’ll pay less for this tea if you buy it using the traditional spelling of its name – oolong tea. Both spellings refer to the same tea, oolong and wu long tea are the same thing, just spelled differently.

The reason for the different spellings is due to the two common systems used to Romanize the Mandarin language, which consists of Chinese characters/symbols and not letters. We get the pronunciation “Oo”…and when using the Pinyin system, we get the pronunciation “Wu”. Put them together with the other characters, and you get the end result of either Oolong tea, or Wu long tea.

Oolong tea is a beverage which is sort of in between green tea and black tea, often reffered to as brown tea, although most varieties have more green tea characteristics. The leaves of this tea type are not fully oxidized as much as black tea, but are allowed to ferment longer than green tea leaves would.

Wu Long and Weight Loss

There have been many documented studies of drinking Wu Long Tea and the effects of weight loss and one of the most famous study's linking wu long tea with weight loss was published in August 2003. Researchers at the University of Tokushima found that oolong tea increased the burning of calories by 10%, while women drinking green tea had an metabolic increase of 4%. Both teas increased the burning of fat. Another Japanese study was done in 2006, and researchers found that oolong tea was able to reduce the absorption of fats eaten during a meal. They found that fats were passed through the body in the stool at a higher rate than participants who did not drink the tea after their meals. To get the best beneftis drink the tea regularly after meals and befor exercise. The tea also had a positive effect on the participant’s cholesterol levels. Green tea has been used traditionally in Japan and other Asian countries by women who wish to stay thin.

It appears that Oolong teas have been found to have the same capabilities to jump start a sluggish metabolism that are found with green tea. Oolong tends to produce roughly twice the difference in metabolic rates that green tea does. At the same time, Wu Long tea has about half the amount of caffeine that one finds in green tea. Although caffeine can increase the metabolism, to some extent, it is evidently not caffeine that makes oolong tea more efficient as a weight loss drink.

This is a basic overview but you can go to the Wu Long Tea House to find out more information about this remarkable product which has numerous benefits for maintainng a healthy body.
