To start with, Myspace.com is an online social networking community where you can do most of what you can on other similar sites-search for friends, join groups, participate in discussions at the message forums, blog or read other's blogs, find new music, watch movie trailers, read book reviews, and search for jobs, among others. What makes MySpace a favorite with most of its members is the opportunity to customize your page.
The homepage of the site done in blue and white doesn't quite give the feel of a social networking site. Signing up is quick, easy and hassle-free here. You can choose not to enter too many details of yourself. But if you are keen on others knowing more about you, there is a lot you can fill up. You can upload your photo, include your interests, relationship status, religion, sexual orientation, education, work profile and a host of other details besides the kind of people you are seeking.
Once you sign up, you get a customized version of the whole site. Customization of pages can be done using HTML, and one can even include Flash content with this process. Additionally, users can add music to their profile via MySpace Music. CSS and editors will help in further altering fonts and colors. But the catch is that the slow performance makes customization a punishment. For those with less patience, try the new offering called "Profile Customizer". This feature stays clear of CSS loading delay problems and hence makes customization easy.
You can start adding your friends directly from the ‘invite' option. There is an option called the ‘Top Friends' where you can create a compact group of eight. However, myspace now allows 8, 12, and even 24 top friends.
The browse option allows you to go through the profiles of myspace members without registering. You can choose the profiles that interest you by choosing from the criteria -male/female, age, country, kind of relationship you are seeking for etc.
Overall, users don't have much of an opinion yet every social networking site has its pros and cons, and hence its lovers and haters. This one may not be the best, but it certainly is facing up to competition bravely.
