How to speed-up your PC by removing unnessesary temporary files

Now adays, most individuals do a lot of browsing on the Internet, installing and uninstalling various programs and building up a cache of temporary files that start to slow a computers performance over time.

The easiest method to remove these files is to use a wonderful program called CCleaner, which was created by Piriform Ltd.

Step 1) (There is a quick video at the bottom of the article which briefly show's you the steps outlined in this article)

In order to download the program, please proceed to the following website:

http://www.ccleaner.com/download/downloading

The download should start automatically. However, if it does not, you will have the option to click on a link titled "Click here if it does not", this link can be found on the left-hand side of the page.

Step 2)

Once the program is downloaded, simply double click the downloaded file to begin the setup. You may be prompted by a security box asking if you would like to install this software, please click on the 'run' button if prompted to continue the install.

Step 3)

From the provided dropdown menu, please select the language you would like the program to install under. Once you have made your choice, please click on 'OK' to confirm this.

Step 4)

The Setup Wizard will start and provide you with a recommendation to close all other programs before installing this program. This simply allows the program to install without the need to reboot the computer after the installation is complete.

Please click on 'Next', once all programs have been closed or exited.

Step 5)

Please read the license agreement provided by Piriform Ltd. If you find the terms acceptable, please proceed by clicking the 'I Agree' button.

Step 6)

Now it asks which directory you would like to install the program to. As the program itself is a very small program it should be fine for you to install it to the default directory in most cases. Please click on 'Next' button.

Step 7)

For convenience of finding the program after it is installed, it is recommend to checkmark the following options on this page.

- Add Desktop Shortcuts

- Add Start Menu Shortcuts

- Automatically check for updates to CCleaner

Please make sure to remove the checkmark from the Add the Yahoo toolbar option. The other two options are a personal choice, the program can still interact with the Recycle-Bin without these two options being checkmarked.

Please click the 'Install' button to proceed with the installation. Once this has finished, please click on the available 'Finish' button to launch the program.

Step 8)

With the program open, the default selections for each program listed under the Windows and Applications tab are generally okay for anybody to delete.

However, under the Windows tab you may want to remove the following checkmarks from the Internet Explorer List if you rely on these particular features: History, Recently Typed URLs, Autocomplete Form History.

Also, under the Windows tab and Windows Explorer section you may want to remove the checkmark from: Recent Documents and Run (this is if you often use the Recent Documents section to find documents you have been working on, or if you use the Run command quite often)

Next, under the Applications tab, everything should be fine by default. However, if you have any Internet Browsers such as Firefox, Chrome, etc installed you may want to remove checkmarks for their options such as: Internet History & Saved Form Information

Once this is done, please click on the 'Run Cleaner' button, proceeded by the 'OK' button when prompted to do so. In the right hand section of the program, a list of files the program deletes will be populated.

Step 9)

Once the Cleaner has finished, please click on the Registry tab found on the left-hand side of the program.

Step 10)

Click on 'Scan for Issues', followed by 'Fix Selected Issues' once the scan has completed. As always, it is a good idea to click 'Yes' when prompted to backup the registry.

Please create a folder specifically to save registry backup's in. I have a folder by the name of 'CCleaner Registry Backups' for these files.

Locate the folder you would like to save this backup in and click 'Save'.

Step 11)

Click 'Fix All Selected Issues', followed by clicking 'OK' when prompted to do so.

Step 12)

Please click on 'Close', and then proceed to click on the 'X' at the top right corner of the program to close it.

This concludes this tutorial for a quick and easy system cleanup. Please see my other tutorials which will be forthcoming for more tips and hints on how to keep your computer healthy and yourself happy!

Thanks for taking the time to read this article and I hope it has helped!

Ilymar
