Founded in 1999, Design Within Reach started off with around 20 containers of product. The company claims to offer designer products only from manufacturers who hold the license to the original design. An excerpt from the website - "It's true that in the beginning, our product mix included unauthorized reproductions. It took years to build the necessary relationships, but in 2006 we completed our mission to be the source for authorized classics from license holders Herman Miller, Knoll, Cassina, Fritz Hansen, Stua, Vitra, Kartell, Emeco, Artek, Objekto, Flos and Cherner Chair Company."

Currently, they maintain around 65 Studios and a website. At dwr.com, you'll find everything they carry, plus additional finishes and styles that may not be shown in their catalogs or Studios.

It is rather simple to create an account and place an order online at dwr.com. First of all you will have to search for the product you want. After you locate your product, you can click "Add this to my order" at the top or bottom of the product detail page. Once you have added an item to your order you may either click "Continue Shopping" or "Begin Checkout" at the bottom of the shopping cart page. When you click "Begin Checkout" you will be asked to Sign In. If you are a new customer, you can use the "Sign In" page create an account. You can only create an account or sign in to your existing account after you have added an item to your order and clicked the "Begin Checkout" button.

Dwr.com offers several benefits for its registered members such tracking the status of your orders, as well as viewing your order history; your billing address will be saved in their database, so you don't have to enter it each time, and etc.
