So Dick, after working tirelessly on a business plan over a succession of sleepless nights, nervously approached the owner with his vision. However, after going through the plans the owner told Dick that he didn't know what he was doing and "would never make a good merchant."
That evening, Dick narrated his story to his grandmother. After listening to his story, grandmother gave $300 to Dick and said "Dick, always follow your dreams." With that money he went on to open a modest bait and tackle shop in Binghamton. By 1958, he expanded his product line to include almost all of sporting goods. Currently, with over 250 stores, Dick's Sporting Goods offers a good selecting of sporting goods.
