He makes his Mama proud - but still needs to register to vote!

So I was in the bookstore the other day browsing through magazines trying to kill time before the kids got out of school, and I came across this little blurb about a website that's offering to help people get registered to vote. It caught my attention because I have an 18-year-old who hasn't registered to vote yet and if he can't break out his laptop or some other gadget to do it, he'd rather not go to the trouble. Going to the guidance office at school to pick a registration up is out of the question and I don't think he's crossed the threshold of a library since 6th grade.

I'm not being fair - (he's standing behind me right now reading the lies his mother is publishing about him....).

He's a great kid who's graduating with honors and will be attending the prestigious Marymount Manhattan School of Theater in the fall - I am so proud. (I wonder where he got his ability to be dramatic....). I am being honest about the fact that he still needs to register to vote, though.

Tangent - sorry!

Anyway, I wrote down the link and looked it up when I got home. www.IWantToVote.com is a website that offers people the opportunity to register to vote online. For about $10 this service prepares all the forms necessary to legally register to vote. The fee covers postage, technology and materials. Once the consumer gets their papers returned to them, they just submit their completed forms by mail to their State Board of Elections. The consumer then has access to videos and other information about the presidential candidates.

Don't be fooled. This operation is under investigation by the Attorney General of the state of North Carolina. They ask for information like social security numbers and driver's license numbers which are not required to complete a voter's registration. Additionally, credit card numbers are required in order for the consumer to receive their completed application.

There has been at least one complaint filed against www.IWantToVote.com. The Better Business Bureau of Oklahoma received a complaint from a consumer who registered with them. This person was initially charged $16 instead of the stated $10 and has since been charged $10 every month since last October.

Voter Registration is a free process. Forms are available at any public library, public high school, Bureau of Motor Vehicles office and, of course, local Board of Elections offices. There are also legitimate voter registration websites if you prefer to do your business online - like my son. (haha)
