Myspace.com is an online social networking community, which now enjoys the distinction of being the third most popular site in the United States. In August 2006, the 100 millionth account of myspace was created and the figure has climbed much higher since.
The homepage of the site done in blue and white doesn't quite give the feel of a social networking site. Signing up is quick, easy and hassle-free here. You can choose not to enter too many details of yourself. But if you are keen on others knowing more about you, there is a lot you can fill up. You can upload your photo, include your interests, relationship status, religion, sexual orientation, education, work profile and a host of other details besides the kind of people you are seeking. Once you sign up, you get a customized version of the whole site.
You can start adding your friends directly from the ‘invite' option. There is an option called the ‘Top Friends' where you can create a compact group of eight. However, myspace now allows 8, 12, and even 24 top friends.
Unlike other sites of the category, myspace provides entertainment unlimited as it gives equal prominence to music, events, comedy and movies. All four exist as separate options in the header bar. In the ‘film' section, there is an iconic display of the movies uploaded by members that are being screened during the week. A short clip or preview and a description accompany each new movie. Film buffs can spend hours here as there are lots of options here like ‘filmmaker search' ‘top filmmakers' ‘screenings' ‘filmmaker forums' etc.
The browse option allows you to go through the profiles of myspace members without registering. You can choose the profiles that interest you by choosing from the criteria -male/female, age, country, kind of relationship you are seeking for etc.
Myspace offers quite a lot of other options as well, a mailbox option, a blog etc. Those who have no clue of what to do can browse through the umpteen videos uploaded by members, some of which are posted right on the homepage, as ‘cool new videos.' You can also check out the myspace music option from where you can listen to the albums of your choice.
